I got in trouble today because I put a wrong patient. The doctor dictated a billing number, name, and MRN. The MRN was had a different patient, but the billing number and the patient name matched the ADT screen. Not to mention the fact that he kept using "she" in the dictation and the MRN number matched a "he". So logically one would just think he had the wrong MRN and I didn't want another QA submission so I sent it through with the correct billing number, name, and sex of the person he was talking about. Today I was told I was in HIPAA violation because I put the wrong patient. I should have sent it to QA so that was stupid on my part. BUT I am so sick the people who make more money then us blaming little mistakes on US and taking no blame what so ever!!!! Can't they put them in some kind of 30 minute work shop and just teach them a little dictation courtesy? Like for instance: Don't eat while you dictate! Make sure you have all your information on hand so you don't sit there for a minute going "uhhhh"! Get the patient and everything about the patient right! Dictate under headings if you want specific things in certain headings because if not we will put them where they make the most sense! Can they not take at least 30 minutes to do that? It should not be all on us if information on a document is wrong! We are not mind readers! We get paid as little as it is with a paycheck getting smaller by the day. Where is the respect? There is none!!! It seems like the only people that respect this job is the ones that want to know more about it and get into it!!! FED UP!
