Do you feel compelled to talk back out loud? I have a new doctor that talks to me, and if he says thank you, I find myself saying "you're welcome" out loud! He also asks questions, as in, "did I remember the vitals" and I say "no you didn't". My dog kind of looks at me funny, like, are you talking to me?

Gesuntheit(sp)or God bless you and sometimes they respond with a thank you (someone else in the background may have said God bless you in the background but I couldn't hear it). I get a kick out of that.

uses my name and emails/calls me sometimes when he wants to make a change in one of his normals. Nice guy, can be scatterbrained sometimes, always apologizes when he jumps about the report (I told him it was okay and not really a problem- he really does not do it that much). Another one just calls me "transcriptionist", and my others go thru a contact at the hospital to get messages to me, they know my name too but don't think they have ever used it in a dictation. But I usually answer out loud to them though they cannot hear me! One complains a lot about the computer being too slow, and it holds up his dictation to me, he apologizes for the delay every time.

The lead doctor doesn't realize that multiple MTs work on his account. He will talk to us when he's in a snit about something; thus far, he has complained about a dozen times regarding reports we "forgot" to do or mistakes we made, and only once was it on a report I actually did. I'm sure he THINKS he's giving a message to the person who made these "mistakes", but he is not.

He also tells me to fax things and file things and other office stuff, completely unaware that I am about 7 states away from his office and that his office staff won't be hearing that voice file.

Yeah, I answer back, but I shall not repeat what I say ;)

There is one doc that says "Good evening, this is Dr. XXX. How are you today?" at the start of every report. It always makes me smile.

I have one doc that will tell you stories that relates to what he is doing. For instance the patient comes in intoxicated. He will get to Social Hx and say "Social drinker" "Ya right" "Oh don't type that"!!!! On time he got a 12 year-old pregnant patient and he went on â��Yes I double checked the chart she is 12 yes just 12, WOWâ�� â��Oh do not type thatâ�� Another will sing songs or make fun of patient names. Others do it from their homes and have dogs barking and having conversations with their family members with the mic on. I like it though gets away from the monotone docs.

Rambles on, makes no sense throughout the dictation at all, does not make complete sentences, dictates on a patient in the WRONG chart constantly, follows no format, which is required by YOU, cuts himself off but yet when you can understand him, he has a "bright" moment and makes sense is an absolute joy to transcribe???? Oh, and did I mention that he only dictates every third day even though he sees patients on a daily basis???? Mini-vent over, back to the confusion ... TIA ...

I got in trouble today because I put a wrong patient. The doctor dictated a billing number, name, and MRN. The MRN was had a different patient, but the billing number and the patient name matched the ADT screen. Not to mention the fact that he kept using "she" in the dictation and the MRN number matched a "he". So logically one would just think he had the wrong MRN and I didn't want another QA submission so I sent it through with the correct billing number, name, and ...

I am a former Spheris MT, now begrudgingly a MQ MT (not that Spheris was all that great either). As was pointed out below, we are still on Spheris rules for the most part but I don't expect that to last forever. At Spheris, if we think a doctor has made a mistake, we are encouraged to flag it but that entails putting in a blank, just as if we didn't understand the dictator. Okay, we've got this new French doctor at one of my hosptials. When I transcribe his dictation, in my head, I'm transcribing dictation form Gelles Marini from Brothers and Sisters and Dancing with the Stars. He's hard to understand, but I'm in love with him. I have a doctor that still uses tapes and refuses to go digital or call-in. The problem is there is interference on the tapes and I can barely hear him. They think it is my transcriber, which it could be, but I don't think it would be worth the investment to buy a new transcriber for tapes when hardly any doctors even use them anymore! The AMA site, you have to type in certain code words before you get in...the UC Health site, you can't just type in a name or part of name, you have to scroll through a long list. Anyone got a way to find doctors in Florida that is simple without having to navigate through typing in codes for site access ...etc. ...
