What the Indians earn - old and burned out

Posted: Mar 25, 2013

I've been looking at exchange rates as well as information on salaries for MTs in India trying to figure out what they are earning.  As best I can tell, a rupee is worth about 2 cents.  If my math is correct, a starting MT is earing about $160/month.  I cannot find any information as to their line rate.  If anyone has better math skills (and it would not be difficult) please correct me.  At that rate, you can see why they want all the work to go to India.  Even their cost of living is not that low.

How do you know what they make? - or what their starting pay is?

to make $160/month a living wage - if that is what they are really earning.

they make more than 160 a month - dont know where that came from

It came from the calculations that old and burned out very correctly made. - sm

And the Indian author of this article mentions several times around 10K to 20K (max) per month. 10,000 rupees equals $184 U.S. dollars currently.

Here's a rundown of the cost of living in India. About 62% less than here for consumer prices in general (but wow, look at the cost of Western clothes, no break there).  But the average Indian MT is obviously making considerably less than that compared to the average U.S. MT (about 80-90% less?), especially since they don't produce as many lines on average that we do.

India pay - outahere

I saw the India ad online and you are correct. They pay them between $150 and $200 for MTs, $400 for TSM. Disgusting. Here's another one for you, StenTel is "offering" 2 cents for SR and 5 cents for TR to US MTs. Gutsy if nothing else. That isn't even worth pushing the power button let alone your time.

So from what I can figure.. - SM

From what I found on the internet:

Salaries And Financing:
Median Monthly Disposable Salary (After Tax) 3,164.00 (US) 461.25 $ (India)

I dont know about you, but I am nowhere close to what they are considering "median US monthly salary." So, putting that into perspective, 150-200 dollars plus all the benefits... sounds like they are doing a bit better than us.

Because of your greed and attempt to cut our throats, I decided I should not be supporting any Indians, Pakistani, etc., who are here in the US, legal or otherwise.   Most of the cigarette stores where I live are owned/operated by Indians and Pakistani.  They are about $15.00 a carton cheaper than the groceries.   So rather than give one more penny to a class of people I now despise, I quit smoking.  You did me a big favor.  ...

a goldmine, PLUS an opportunity to put those immoral MTSOs in their place.  Every job has the time it was submitted and who did it.  If those times are strung-out over 10-14 hours when the MTSO bogus records show you worked an 8-hour shift, who do you think will come out ahead in a lawsuit?  Also, keep a log on the REAL hours you worked as icing on the cake.  An employment attorrney would have a ball with this. ...

In Terms Of What You Earn Per Day - What Is Your Bottom Line?

A post on the company board got me to think about what it is we (as MTs) need in terms of pay.  Does 3 cpl provide for you and your family (if you have dependents)? Does 12 cpl provide that need?  What is your daily average of income regardless of whether it is voice recognition or straight income?  Do you have a bottom line that you will not cross or will find something outside of medicatl transcription? I will post separately my personal need and hope others will share theirs. ...
