Thought about dictators with oral diarrhea. - gonzo

Posted: Feb 01, 2010

I think that part of a physician's training/internship or whatever should be to have 6 months to 1 year of being an MT before they start practicing medicine.  Maybe that would help.  Of course, then they would all know how to type their own reports and the need for us will diminish...yet, a physician's time is apparently very precious...so maybe not.  Just thinking outloud, never gonna happen.

Excellent idea Gonzo - CyberlandMT

Or perhaps, for every MD who mumbles and bumbles through a 770(s) report, ending dictation at about the 275(s) mark, but leaving the mike open the rest of the way - be fined to listen to their own report and waste time and money not made while doing it. Do they not even realize there is a person on the other end of the line who is not getting paid to hear babble in the background, them eating a snack and emitting other bodily noises before they decide to push the stop button??

Add to that.... - Going Deaf

finding the loudest beeper we can find and put it right up to the mic while standing next to beeping monitoring equipment. Oops! Guess I couldn't turn it off before I looked at the page or dare move away from the loud machines while dictating. That would be too easy and too darn courteous!

Nah...I don't need my hearing to do this job at all!

Would be beneath them/certain trainings - Vikefan

Aw,heck. As it is, doctors get something like 8-20 hours of training on substance abuse and that's it. Now, with the DEA pressuring them not to prescribe narcotics, they no longer care how much pain you're in, they're too afraid of losing their license. I broke my foot and tore the muscle from the bone, also damaged the ligaments and tendons. All but the top of my foot was black and purple and the top was too edematous to allow blood floor. Therefore, all my toes, swollen like sausages, were numb because the nerves were choked off by the swelling. My treatment? Four months in a cam walker and ibuprofen. I called the next day for something a little stronger and got Anaprox. Now, if you're like me, and got (have since had hyster) horrible and debilitating cramps, you became an Aleve addict every month. I've had so much Aleve that my body laughs at it and also Naprosen, Naproxen and Anaprox. I was left to suffer for 10 days with a terribly painful, throbbing foot. I should have gone to the ER but hoped it was only sprained. I saw a pod doc instead 4 days later. I limped around for 4 days with an ACE and an old surgical shoe. I would have gone to the ER but since I had spent the previous 3 months extremely sick, with one infection after another, I had ended up in that ER where they gave me a contaminated IV and a second round of sepsis. No way was I going back there and the next hospital closest was 35-60 minutes away. Hubby was working every day for long hours and it was my driving foot I broke, so I waited and saw the pod doc. I cannot take medications like Ultram because they lower my seizure threshold (Ultram started the whole low seizure threshold thing with a nice huge grand mal seizure, but I don't get them if I watch what I take) but when you tell doctors that (it's becoming more and more known now about Ultram and seizures), they act like you're asking for morphine or just seeking drugs. Even some Darvocet would have helped.

As far as teaching them MT, almost all doctors have huge egos and it would be way beneath them to have to go thru something like that. It does tend to be the newer doctors with oral diarrhea. Stephen King was once quoted as saying he was accused of having diararhea of the word processor. I have the same condition. I'm sure you've all realized that by now. LOL.

Though I wouldn't want them all day long, I like the longer dictations. I get a way better line count. For several months, I was on an acct that was mostly ASR and the dictations were all from about 40-130 seconds. It takes time to spell check, upload, download, put in ADT info, etc. in between each document. I was doing over 30 documents a day and had a bear of a time reaching my line count.

Lousy Dictators - Crappy, Hard To Understand Dictators, Both ESL And English-speaking
May 17, 2014

Today I will make less than half of what I normally get because all I've gotten today are crappy, hard to understand dictators, both ESL and English-speaking.  Seems like all I get lately are the hard to understand, mush-mouth dictators.  Guess Nuance doesn't want their MTs making quota.  Sorry.  I just had to vent. ...

Wmx - Another Thought On This
Sep 02, 2010

I think this was a very large account and they could have divided the MTs who had this as their primary and put them on various other accounts.  Yes, this would have overstaffed those accounts and more MTs would be getting NJA as we all scrambled for what work there was.  Also, this way WMX would not be putting out unemployement for anyone and soon most of us would not have benefits because we couldn't keep our line counts up with NJA all the time.  All in all, looks like the ...

I Thought I Was The Only One
May 13, 2011

I just realized that no one cares about the quality of medical records anymore.  I have had to go to VR and I am now making anywhere between 4 and 12 dollars/hour.  I guess people care more about the quality of their hamburgers than they do peoples' healthcare. I have started to just send them through.  I don't even really listen to the work.  I look at it and change any major spelling errors, but other than that, what the VR says is what they get.  The fu ...
