How did you find this out? I just Googled it (and I am good at Google) and I couldn't find a thing. I would love to read the article.

Your source for this? I can think of only one reason - for an ILP strike

[ In Reply To ..]
And I'm pretty sure this isn't the reason, but the only thing that I can think of for the ILPs to strike is that maybe they're protesting because their MT jobs are being taken away and outsourced over to the Philippines or China now.

Or perhaps - (sm)

[ In Reply To ..]
they believe they are not earning what they are worth.

knew that was only a matter of time - US MTs have been expressing that for sometime! - yappy

I met an Indian MT on an Indian site much like this one (always a good idea to keep an eye on the enemy). He made a post where he claimed to be a "senior MT" after only 8 years in the business. I've been an MT for only 17 years and I still learn something new everyday. I would never boast I was a senior MT at only 17 years, so I called him on it. My message was polite, but sarcastic. He actually wrote back that he was humbled by my years of experience. He began sending emails on occasion. He is a single parent of 2 sons. He has 3 jobs to support his family. He actually admitted to me that India was the downfall of this field.

He explained to me the horrific working conditions, and that Indian MT companies are not to be trusted. They actually steal from their workers. (Sounds familar.) He told me they were losing accounts like crazy to the Philippines and China.

This past spring he emailed me and asked for my help (I know)! He was hoping I could help with their working conditions through the AAMT, AHDH (whatever). I explained to him that our wages were falling drastically and we cannot at this point even help ourselves. When I told him what on average I currently make because of pay cuts, he wrote back to me that "I would be rich!" He makes on USD equivalent 19.00 USD a day. He also told me that they needed a way to do away with the "floor walkers" the supervisors that look over their shoulders and could dock their pay for anything they wanted. These people have no limits placed upon them by the company. I recently read an article on this board about 2 people in this position that were selling patient info from a hospital in England.

Bottom line, it is not the fault of the individual MT from any country. This is the fault of the greedy MT companies and hospitals. MTs from every country want what we want, to support their families and provide their children with something better.

Please don't hate me for the truth. This acquaintance gave me real education as to what is actually going on. I'm an American and I'm on our side, but there is also the human side and our real enemy is the "greedy side" which are the MT companies and hospitals.

I posted a similar sentiment just the other day - (sm)

[ In Reply To ..]
Greedy MTSOs all around, the rest of us are just trying to survive, whether we live in the US, India, or wherever else. I blame my fellow Americans for ruining this industry and taking our jobs away.

Blame the 1% who have more $$$ than the other 99% combined! - L&L

MTs are not the 1st and will not be the last time-honored profession to be downgraded, underpaid, and shipped overseas. This has been going on decades. Blame the rich. My ex keeps expecting class warfare, but too few people realize just how rich the real rich really are.

I saw posts about such mistreatment on an - dnr

Indian forum site that is similar to this one. There were warnings not to work for the big C because they were ripping off the people they trained, effectively holding them hostage for additional school payments.

China? - Long time MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Are MT companies really popping up in China? I wouldn't think they had enough English speaking candidates to be able to do that. Wonder who is training them, as I have not seen any ads looking for US MTs to go to China to train. Not saying it isn't so, just curious.

I read that as C-Bay, not China. nm - mnt

STRIKE
Nov 05, 2009

After 20 plus years in this field and now having to work 15 hour days to make a decent day's pay, I do not know about you, but I am fed up.  There is not a company out there that does in fact "value" our services.  If we can get 8/line we consider ourselves lucky.  I have seen the rates go down and believe that is due to the fact most companies outsource to other countries - whether they admit it or not - and was in fact told by a recent recruiter not to expect more than 8 ce ...

I have been on 100% QA for 3 MONTHS now.  Been working slower, taking my lumps, reading each (of my 300) client profiles, "thanking" my CCM and QA for their feedback, no no avail.  I can't live with this pay MQ gives.  I cannot make a decent check at 4cpl on 100% ASR.  I talked to my CCM, but really???  "There's nothing I can do until you're off QA, I understand how hard it is, I don't think it's right either..."   This cannot be LEG ...

What If We Went On Strike For A Day?

Really I am just being silly, but think about it!  What if we all just quit typing for one day?  What if the day we just don't type falls on an Indian Holiday?  HeHeHe then they would be screwed!  That's how I feel right now with the short changing I keep getting.  I am on a 95% ASR account with the world's worst dictators.  Oh well, just a thought.  I just thought I would share this after going over my line count and what I made today so far. *e ...

You need to wake up the industry.  You all need to strike.  Need to pick a few days to not work at the same time.  You all need to call in sick.  You say you need your job??  I guarentee you this company is LAYING OFF MTs EVERYDAY!  There are some days which are in the hundred range.  You need to stand up and do something or you will soon GET THE CALL stating you are such a good employee, but......  we unfortunately have to let you go.  At least you ...

Going On A Strike....sm
Dec 04, 2014

We should all go on strike until they fix this pay plan or give us our old pay and leave it alone. Thousands of MLS on strike would have an impact. Even hundreds might. It's the only way to get heard or our point across. We are the "bottom feeders" but we are the ones doing all the hard work, have the schooling for it and produce in order for the higher guys to get their lovely bonuses and big checks. We make them money. We are the company basically. If so many are outraged then we need to ...

How Would You Feel About Organizing A Strike?
Apr 18, 2010

So, I know that there are a lot of issues from all sides of the MT industry and that a lot of people are unhappy.  I know that there are many happy MTs out there, but I think that those MTs may be newbies (and don't really know the difference of how it used to be to now) or are one the lucky few that work for some of the great companies out there, or possibly work in-house.  IMHO there should be NO reason to send our work out of the country, especially with delicate med ...

Only A Union Can Call A Strike. Sm

NATIONAL MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST STRIKE! ..
Feb 19, 2015

As MTs, we have seen over the years how our jobs just keep bottoming out more or less.  Companies are taking advantage of us while they "suck up all the money" that is paid out by healthcare facilities; we just "don't count."  On top of that, companies are now trying to turn us into ICs supplying our own software programs AND equipment.  In 25 years of doing this, I have not seen line count pay increase one iota quite frankly.  The only thing I can think of is ...

Not trying to be ignorant of things, but I read A LOT of reference to ESL dictators and work going to India.  What are ESL dictators exactly?  I am asking because I've worked for this company only for a short time, but I don't have any dictators that are ESL (I am assuming English second language speakers correct)? other than what is normal for my region AND I also have not lost any work to India.  I am concerned though as it seems to be a trend.  I rarely run ...

Pay For MTs In India
Sep 22, 2011

Was just curious really about how much MTs in India make.  No wonder so much work is going over there.  They can make around 5000 rupees a month, which is about $125 in U.S. dollar a month, plus line count bonuses.  It makes me so angry that MQ is playing a part of the downfall of our economy by offshoring, instead of trying to help our country out by keeping work here.  Wonder how much the unemployment rate would drop if every MTSO in this country stopped offshorin ...

9 P.m. And It All Goes To India
Feb 19, 2013

My employer won't admit it but all of this month the work on my account will go from 50-75 reports well within TAT to suddenly nothing and this happens between 9-9:15 p.m.  Typically that volume of report would last me and the others on the account until 11 p.m. or midnight.  Ironically I note that 9 p.m. in the US is equal to 9 a.m. in India.  Why don't they just admit they're giving work to India and stealing it from us, leaving those of us scheduled to work until ...

MME From India
May 22, 2013

For the last two nights I have been editing almost all reports from MTs in India.  The reports go through 2 MMEs in India and then come to me.  It is amazing since they are supposed to be so "good" at what they do, that just about all of the reports come through with errors in them that were not picked up by MMEs in India. Just a thought.  ...

And What's To Say It CANNOT All Be Sent To India?
Mar 14, 2015

If the economy ever gets better, most of us will leave for jobs that pay better. Once they don't have enough of us, they'll simply send the work to India rather than pay us more. They will continue to insist on paying low wages. I think they saw an opening when the economy tanked with too many people, including us, looking for a job -- ANY job and took advantage of the economy by transforming this job into a minimum-wage job. Then they could tell the hospitals how cheap they could ...

India And The Phillipines.
Dec 02, 2009

I forgot to ask this question in my last post: Assuming that most of us are getting 8-10 cpl, what are the Indian and Phillipino MTs getting?  Half?  Less than half?  Also, assuming that the need for MTs will continue somewhat - how long do you all think it will be before all the remaining MTSOs will outsource to India and the Phillipines - for nothing else, but to reduce their MT overhead?? Now I'm really depressed, and I have to start work. Thanks everyone.   ...
