Question regarding role of CCM. - sm

Posted: Jul 05, 2013

Does anyone know what the role of the CCM is? It seems all they do is make sure there's adequate coverage for all of the accounts, so MT scheduling/schedule adherence, accepting or denying PTO requests, some Teamwork stuff, approving time sheets -- what am I missing? Also, does anyone know how much they get paid? This seems like the easiest job in the world, considering no weekends, no holidays. I hear from mine about once every 2 weeks when she sends out reminders to approve your time sheet and that's about it. From my perspective, the most difficult thing to deal with would be angry MTs calling and emailing about being out of work. Since I'm one of those angry OOW MTs, I need a new job.

I was told by my CCM a few times when I had questions to get with my QC. She told me she was in charge of mostly scheduling. With us running out of work all the time what is she scheduling? When she sends ane3-mail out for additional coverage for vacations or other MT's being gone everyone gets it and I will tell I will cover those hours, but everyone else does and there is no work.

Meant CCM, not CCF. Anyway I think I heard they make 75,000 plus, maybe up to 90,000.

To be a scheduler?? 75K?? - sm

Oh my goodness!! That is crazy! Is that seriously all they do -- take care of scheduling? My mind is officially blown. So upper management makes 3 figures and CCMs make 75k or more - this is nuts!

I think they make about $40,000 and supposedly and this came from a friend of mine a few years ago, you have to work 7 days a week; always have your cell on and have a laptop with you 24/7 as well. She lasted four hours and quit. The CCM I have was a tech person, never transcribed a day in her life and believe me you can tell, she has no grasp whatsoever about what a transcriptionist has to know or do. She is horrible and I don't like her at all; because all you hear is negative and then if you need something or want something like PTO, she is MIA! Total B! I am outta of here the end of this month and it can get her quick enough. This company is horrible!

They also deal with the clients - MME

They used to only make about 40k to 50k a year, rather than the 75k a previous poster said. I doubt they have changed that. Besides scheduling, dealing with 100s of MT questions daily, essentially being always on-call, and dealing with corporate BS that rains on them, they need to deal with clients, especially when they are angry about quality, sometimes flying to the site.

A friend of mine was a CCM a few years ago and absolutely hated it and quit after a year or so; way too stressful. She actually was a past MT and, although I haven't talked to her in awhile, I believe she went back to it, or maybe doing QA.

I would not want that job - For all the tea in China

Let's see, 300 e-mails a day, 24/7 checking work flow and job coverage, 100s of calls and e-mails from angry MTs--for anything from no jobs to the MME corrected a comma to how could they flunk my audit...

Not to mention corporate meetings and just dealing with corporate in general. Not pretty.

They don't deal with clients anymore. That is the - TSMs job. nm

TSM deals with MTs, not clients. - budmt

They split that job a while back so the TSM could mainly deal with making the MTs happy (lol).
According to an email I received a couple years ago... - sm

My old supervisor was "promoted" to TSM, who, according to her, deals with clients, not MTs. Our new supervisor was then called our "CCM," who only deals with MTs.
yep; I agree - anon

you are right; they split the two roles up; I want to say it was back around October when it happened and I got a corporate email about it. It was just about the time the account I was on work dried up and my current supervisor/TSM left the company and I got a new one.
my TSM deals with the MTs and the CCM - budmt

WOMAN'S ROLE

In answer to my original post to Val, only 2 issues here, Val:1. We are almost all woman. It is run like a system that once historically ran hospitals. We are not a Walmart, Kmart, Target, McDonalds. We are skilled workers, women for the most part, and from the old days, historically this has been a woman's role/job in a fraternity of higher powers, the men who once often had nuns as cohorts filling this postion for no pay at all.2. MT Role - Always Evolving (FACT - Brief Response)
Apr 14, 2011

The role of the MT is always evolving.  No doubt we are all trying to figure out a way to stay afloat.  One of those ways could be for the MT to go beyond just transcription into assisting with the clinical documentation (including the complicated ICD-10).  Some doctors believe that medical transcription is one of the least efficient parts of their medical practice.   Certainly, many MT's have moved beyond transcription into speech recognition Medical Editors ...
