Per Diem Pay - looking

Has anyone worked transcription Per Diem? I am looking in California and finding this to be a very common trend. There are several in-house positions, all Per Diem. I have an interview this week and from what the recruiter told me it is like part-time but you are not guaranteed hours, however, I would rather try something new than work 40 hours a week for minimum wage. If you have done this I would like to know how it worked out for you. THanks

I was hoping for some input. I may have the opportunity to work per diem for overflow work. I have never worked that before, always was full-time. Now presently unemployed and thought that this per diem, if hired, would give me a start in a new place. Can any of you share your experiences about that? I've been in this business for 30 years, but am under employed at the moment and am starting to get bored to tears with having so little work to do. But, it seems that all of the ads that I see are looking for full time transcriptionists. Surely there must be some companies or MTSOs somewhere who would need an MT to help with part time or per diem work, to help with vacation coverage or maybe for temporary work just to help clear up an occasional back log and such.
