Have any of you worked per diem??? - MTMT

Posted: Mar 17, 2011

I was hoping for some input. I may have the opportunity to work per diem for overflow work. I have never worked that before, always was full-time. Now presently unemployed and thought that this per diem, if hired, would give me a start in a new place. Can any of you share your experiences about that? Do you get a call the day before that you are needed the next day or day/s, do you have a line count you need to adhere to, anything else you might add on a per diem transcriptionist would be helpful. A big thanks to all who respond.

My experience per diem - it is what it is

I am currently unemployed too, and I was hired for a on-site per diem job at an Imaging center. They called me a couple of weeks ago and wanted me to come in ASAP, which was no big deal, except I didn't get a full 8 hrs work. Then they had me work the next 3 days. Two days fell in one week on my UE claim and the other 2 another week. I ended up making less money that I would have had I not worked the per diem job at all. Depending on how the work falls it can sometimes work in your favor and sometimes against you. I still enjoy going to work and doing something besides sitting home broke and sending resumes that I never get a reply from.

I did that for a while, good pay - sm - ECMT

The MTSO had a huge backlog, once it dried up so did any work with them. They would generally either call me the day of or day before and ask me if I could work and how much I could take. It was C-phone work though, and I really hate working via C-phone, prefer to have the work right in front of me, or at least the sound file on my computer. But no, did not get much notice, hence it being per diem. But it was good pay at the time (.10 cpl) which was good for me at the time as I was only getting 0.075 at my regular job. I should email them though as I did change my email address a year or so ago, though never worked for them in 2010, kind of dried up in Fall of 2009. Keep in touch for job ops and all.

Per Diem Pay

Has anyone worked transcription Per Diem?  I am looking in California and finding this to be a very common trend.  There are several in-house positions, all Per Diem.  I have an interview this week and from what the recruiter told me it is like part-time but you are not guaranteed hours, however, I would rather try something new than work 40 hours a week for minimum wage.   If you have done this I would like to know how it worked out for you.  THanks ...

Can anyone tell me their thoughts/opinion regarding per diem status with Syn*? They have made an offer,  told me it is rare that I'd get less than 30 hrs/wk, that it can turn into FT status...  Is anyone per diem? Do you get regular work?       Thanks,   Skeptical ...

Vacation, P.r.n., Per Diem Coverage?
Dec 14, 2009

I've been in this business for 30 years, but am under employed at the moment and am starting to get bored to tears with having so little work to do.  But, it seems that all of the ads that I see are looking for full time transcriptionists.  Surely there must be some companies or MTSOs somewhere who would need an MT to help with part time or per diem work, to help with vacation coverage or maybe for temporary work just to help clear up an occasional back log and such.  But, d ...
