Part-time flex - 20-year MT
Posted: Mar 23, 2011
I have been Part-Time Flex for years, but sup wants me to switch to Part-Time. What's so different between the two?
you are one of the few lucky flex left - NJA Queen

The difference is PT is a minimum 24 hour per week schedule versus your flex which is what- 2000 lines or 10 hours? Why do you think MQ did away with the flex position- so many people were able to work a FT job somewhere else and work MQ flex like a second job and at only 10 hours a week it probably cost more to keep the employees on the payroll. Once you switch or quit you can never get that flex position back because it is no longer offered. Your CCM wants you to switch because she wants to be able to schedule you for a minimum of 24 hours a week rather than what you are working now.

Yes - 2000 lines a week (and I thought minimum allowed was 12 hours)-- I have been with MQ for 7 years as PT flex. Due to financial circumstances, I may have to switch over to full-time status in a few months in order to get the benefits. Just having that peace of mind knowing they do not "own me" is wonderful and right now I am allowed to work 39 hours a week (of course without benefits). The flexibility is the only thing that makes it palatable for me right now.
I am flex part time as well and scheduled 11 hours a week which I never do nor do sm - mqmt

I do 2000 a week. I refuse to do 10 different hospitals when I only work a couple hours a day so I only do mainly 1 hospital and sometimes 2 if I cn get OP notes.
If my CCM calls and says I have to change to part time 24 hours, I'm gone. I will not work that many hours. I have to work full time for my other job and get way too tired come afternoon and evening----been doing his 17 years and getting old!

How do benefits with MQ work? How much do they take out of your weekly pay check? I've been thinking about converting over from FT w/no benefits but haven't gotten around to determining if it is in fact a benefit to have benefits with them.

Open enrollment will be effective June 1, 2011, so everything may be changing. I was told we will not hear what these changes are until around the end of April. So, I know as little as you about what the benefits are and how they will work. This will be the determining factor on whether I go FT or not. It would be only for the benefits and perhaps unemployment for my husband in the upcoming months. This too shall pass.

What do you mean when you say everything may be changing? What type of changes do you think might take place?
FT with benefits - ea

If you do decide to go FT with benefits, you will have to wait 3 months, even though you are already an employee, so whatever type of insurance we have in June, you will not be able to get it until September.

So how "flexible" are you allowed to be with your hours? Does the title of Flex allow you to vary your hours day to day as long as you give 2000 lines? Just curious as I have never seen this specified anywhere in any type of MQ handbook.
PT-flex - Have to keep schedule - MTfor4

Being part-time flex you still have to adhere to a given schedule. There is just more lenience when things do occasionally arise, and you can flex your hours around those "occasional" things. Being PT flex does not mean you can come on and off whenever you please, it just allows a little more flexibility. At least that has been my experience and I try to stay loyal to my schedule when I can and not take advantage of the flexibility.

I have a regular schedule, too, but my CCM is fabulous about working with me when I need some flexibility because I am working full-time and doing a practicum in college where I sometimes get called at the last minute and need to leave. As long as I let her know it happened and have a plan for when to make up the time, she's great about accommodating. (Of course, it helps that the majority of my transcription time is on the weekends, when they need coverage the most.) I know I'm a lucky duck...I hear so much here about people with totally inflexible CCMs, but I'm happy. Glad I didn't give up my PT Flex status when the changes were made.
PT to PT-Flex - No Longer MQ

I used to be PT-Flex for many, many years, then went to PT Regular and recently I asked to go back to PT-Flex because I was having a hard time doing 24 hours and they wouldn't let me, so I had to quit.
I am part time but not flex. I wanted to go flex but my CCM told me that they no longer had flex positions available. This was probably 2 years ago. How is everyone part time flex? ...
I'm currently flex part time only working 18 hours a week but I do have a set schedule. What are the requirments for part-time and how may hours per week do you have to work. Also, is there a difference between the line counts for part time and flex part time. Thanks. ...
I'm part time 24+ a week right now...looking to decrease hours but want to make sure I can get at least 10 hours a week. Will I have trouble getting that? When I was hired they said they couldn't guarantee flex PT hours, so....? ...
I was just reading over at the Department of Labor website.
It seems to me that many MTSOs have changed the original meaning of "flex time"for employees. Used to be that we had X hours in a day to work our schedule. (example: 12 hours flexible time to work 7 hours). Suddenly, it is now 8 hours to work 8 hours with strict adherence.
So, one might say this is done in office jobs. But when I worked in an office for many years, we were on the clock for everyt ...
at Medquist. I may be taking a different job but kind of wanted to keep this just in case I hate it or the pay is even worse, though I doubt that will happen. Is there a minimum? Are you just on call for heavy times? Just there for trades, etc.?

Does Nuance offer flex time? I work for Accentus and they're very flexible when it comes to when I have to work; nobody says anything as long as I produce, whether I get on a 6 am, off at 7, on again at 9, off at 2, on again at 7 off 9, etc. I'm going to have a huge problem if there's no flexibility in my schedule. ...
If anyone knows of a hospital, clinic, or large practice offering remote full-time or part-time employee positions, I would really appreciate an email. I have the sudden need to help support a family member long term (in addition to myself) and really need to find a long-term remote employee position for the stability. Yes, I watch all the various employment sites and even individual hospital sites, but I was hoping that maybe, just maybe someone who works for a hospital that does th ...
Has anyone working for an MTSO been downgraded from full-time status to part-time status based on not enough hours worked to be considered full time, yet making well above the minimum amount of earnings required for full-time status?

I worked for MQ full time and then went to part time last year, before finally quitting altogether because of health problems. I seem to remember an obscure policy that if you were full time and then went to part time, you could not go back to full time for a period of at least 1 year. Can anyone verify that for me? IF, and this is a big IF, I were to go back to work for MQ, I would need to be full time. ...
Does anyone care to share that if you are hired at optiscript part time will they let you change to full time easily? I know they are a small company and do not over hire so I do not know how easily this could be done. I am thinking of cutting down to part time at my current employee so I can work part time elsewhere and eventually just leave my current employee once I see how the land lays elsewhere. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated :) ...
Since part-time is generally considered 20-25 hrs. per week, does that mean that full-time is anything over 25 hrs. per week or does it have to be a flat 40 hrs? ...
I am strongly considering going to part-time, just hoping to get opinions from anyone who has gone from full-time to part-time or opinions from anyone who has just always been part-time. Thanks! ...
Would anyone be willing to post info on this? I am considering switching to part-time. Wondering how amenable the company is to such requests. If you have done this, were you able to keep same schedule or were you forced into a different schedule? Thanks for any thoughts!

Has anyone been allowed to go from full-time to part-time employment with Nuance? Were you able to keep the same basic schedule? I won't be ready to do this until early next year, so not asking HR at this point.
Thanks for any responses! ...
I see the post about going from full to part time, but what about the opposite? For example, if I get hired at 30 hours per week and I have extra time available for a few weeks, can I consistently work more hours than those scheduled 30 hours? Thanks for any insight you can give. ...
I am still debating whether to enroll at Andrews or M-TEC. My husband is retiring in 2 years and I want to be able to work part-time after that. Is it realistic to think that I can complete the course at Andrews or M-TEC in 12 months at the most, work full time for a year and then part-time after that. I would want to be able to work from home. I guess the other question is "How long after graduating could I expect to earn enough to make it worth the investment, in a reas ...
I hired on at full time but want to drop 2 hours off a day. Do they make you change shift or accounts in that case? I don't want benefits so don't care about that.
I worked at Nuance and any change in schedule ultimately ended up in an account and/or shift change.

from full time to part time w MM? I am so burned out trying to work full time hours, I honestly think I would get the same pittance of a check working part time. Thanks. ...
For those who went full time to part-time with MQ (because you got another job)...how did that work? Did they approve the schedule you wanted, or did they make you take a schedule? My CCM told me in my area there is no more flexible part-time available but could do regular 24 hour part-time...she said she would have to approve my schedule if and when I do this. I may be doing two part-time jobs to start and I am trying to figure out how to do my scheduling around both jobs.
Does a ...
I just switched to part-time status due to a court reporting program I have been taking and need 4 hours a day to practice my speed. I couldn't really figure out the time off situation. I don't care about PTO but want to take time off when I need it. Anybody know anything about this? Thanks. ...
Has anyone gone full-time to part-time and then worked part-time at another company as well? I can't keep having my pay go up and down with this incentive nonsense. Need more stability. Way too much stress.

What do you all do when you are OOW? Do you flex and come back later in the day, flex to a different day of the pay week, use your PTO, or take time off without pay?
I usually flex and make up later in day or another day, but really getting tired of that, but need the money, even as little as it is these days. Makes for very long days, as you all know. Starting out working first shift and then having work to midnight is awful. Besides, do not feel right about cutting into other peop ...
Yet another email this morning stating volumes are low, please flex your time. Can someone explain to me exactly what this means? In actuality, aren't they asking/expecting us to be available all day until there is actual work, instead of the schedule we signed up for? ...
I'm getting frustrated about finding a part-time job. I've done so many interviews, I'm blue in the face. They all want to start at such a low cpl that I just can't do it. I'm about ready to try to get a non-MT part-time and see how that goes. I've heard about Avon and that it can be done from home on-line now. I'm wondering if that would supplement my income any better. The only problem I have is I hate going door-to-do ...
