I've been reading all the posts on here, I have read the emails from Medquist.
I don't do this job for fun. I do it to get paid. If I have to spend all my time looking up old reports and trying to figure out what this doctor mumbled or that one said when his head was underwater, my line counts will go down...meaning less pay.
And yet if I send blanks to the client that get audited and THEY think I could have found the information, I go back on 100% QA... hence less pay.
This is not an easy profession, either for an MT or a QA person. Let's face it. No one could just "sit down and do this job."
And I am not going to play MQ's game. I'm going to do my job exactly as I have done for 7 years, and if they put me back on 100% QA, I'm out the door.
The stress and strain is not worth it. The worrying is not worth it. I enjoyed the job in the beginning, but I am actually tired of working from home, anyway.
So I suppose my days are limited, but I'm not going to go psychotic to work for this company, and I am NOT going to get paid nothing to do this job.

[ In Reply To ..]I 100% agree with you. You said everything I have been thinking. I used to love this job and today I actually HATE it. I am looking and hopefully will find something different soon. Been doing this for over 20 years and it is time for a change.

[ In Reply To ..]husband yesterday in tears how much I hate my job, and we reminisced the good ole days of a nice paycheck, and the joy I used to get with my job and being able to work at home. For a few weeks now, I've been deciding which direction I need to go as far as a different job. I am schooling, but I don't think I can take 2 more years of this crap! LucyK is right...the daily stress and the "unknowing" is not worth anything!

[ In Reply To ..]Right on sistah! That's what I've been doing all along. It is very, very rare that I do anything different than what I have been doing all along. Funny thing about that, they must value me (i use that loosely as we are in fact speaking of MQ...) because I'm still here!
I haven't been fired or put on 100% QA or had a pay cut!
I do not plan on looking up anything! AND if I can't figure out what is being said, I'm sending a marker. That's it, period, end of story.
I've been here for 10+ years, nary a fuss or complaint from any of my CCMs, so when this latest panic hit, I took it in stride. Another something will get changed around in the next few months and I plan on doing what I do, transcribing and editing. Nothing more, nothing less.

[ In Reply To ..]You actually have had "sneaky pay cuts"--in the way of ASR reduction (they say it increases productivity 30% (doesn't really) so they cut everyone's pay. They took away all of the decent incentive bonuses, replacing them with others that paid out much less...until we finally got to them stopping the bonus at altogether, only to "reward" us with an insulting line rate increase that, for most of us, comes to under 50 cents a DAY more!
And unfortunately, you may have not been put on 100% yet, but this new "scheme" of theirs has just started. See how you feel about going with the flow when they decide that you "should" have been able to get those blanks.......
They do NOT want to pay unemployment to anyway if they can help it....so instead they will just keep ramming it to us until we break. IMO.

[ In Reply To ..]After spending a day nearly in tears - seeing my imminent homeless status since I would no longer have a paycheck, I came on this MT board and was reminded - to my great JOY - that I could indeed put in a QA marker and send it off to the client instead of to the dreaded, money-stealing QA! Cheered up considerably, although today, I was down in my usual line count by 100-150 lines because of sheer terror of letting an error go through and taking forever looking up nearly everything! Tomorrow I will be better and back to my usual after hearing all the things said here!

[ In Reply To ..]You are right on, girl! MQ is trying to put its MTs in a stranglehold, but it won't work unless the MTs sit back and take it. And why would you? The policy you describe makes no sense whatsoever, and is just a way to drive wages down further. If MQ said they'd pay you 1 cent per line, would you stay and take it? It looks like that's about where they are trying to go with their MTs. You are SO right, LucyK. Just don't do it. No good MT deserves to be treated this way.

I am worth more than 2 cents a line and it will be THEIR loss not mine if they force me out. They can go ahead and try to find my replacement who will work my crazy hours and has a high production. [ In Reply To ..]I agree with LucyK and will not play games. I have good work ethics & do a good job (MQ since 1997). Have not been fired or put on 100% QA. Will not quit. Plan on staying until I get fired or laid off, then planning on TAA. I anticipate at some point they will say "too many blanks to client" & use that as an excuse to fire us, but if I need to send blanks to client or to QA that is what I plan to do. I refuse to guess. Also, don't need to be fired or laid off to get UE in Texas. Don't know about other states but in Texas you can get partial unemployment if NJA or less hours than scheduled.

I've been having this problem recently. Whenever I'm on computer, whether it be looking at a website, reading email, etc., I will intermittently have commercial ads (audio) play in the background. I have been sent a number of .wav files. Express scribe can't play them, and is opening them as multi-channel files. Windows Media player isn't playing them. VLC isn't. Real Player isn't. I have renamed them, and downloaded updated drivers for my sound card. I have tried multiple computers. Another MT on the account is having the same issue. Any other thoughts or suggestions on this? I am trying to do a transcription test and the company I used to work for changed my computer setup and I can no longer use Express Scribe to play voice files using my foot pedal.
