I just accepted a position, mostly because I want some stability.
I've been an IC for 25 years but have found that in the last few years, I'm usually sending out resumes every 4 to 6 months because of no work or low work or MTSO lost account, etc.
Most recently I signed on as an IC for a company who had taken a hospital's backlog, so I knew that one wouldn't last long. It lasted 3 months.
Just before that job, I was working for an MTSO who sent an email to all MTs stating they lost the account to VR and that our services were not needed anymore. I had that job for about 9 months.
Before THAT one, it was basically the same story as the last one. That one lasted about 7 months.
Before that, I was an IC for a company for almost 2 years with good pay. They went to VR and, of course, slashed the pay. I left because I felt I couldn't afford the pay cut (single income, mine) and looked for other straight-typing IC work (with the results noted above). I should've stayed, I know.
So now I'm tired. It's also very stressful having to basically send out resumes and job hunt every 6 months to a year in order to keep working, also during the time I AM working worrying about when the hammer will drop on this gig too.
Yeah, I know...some of you out there will say "that hasn't happened to me," or "it must be YOUR fault" or "the good jobs are out there, you just have to find them." Unfortunately, I've looked very hard and haven't found them. I need a paycheck but I also need some stability.
Honestly, will MModal offer me some stability as an employee? I ask that sincerely.
I really wish I had chosen to go to school for something else back in 1992....live and learn.
