Long pauses in dictation - is there a way to zoom past them? - thornbird

Posted: Nov 18, 2009

I've got the most annoying dictator that I keep getting over and over again.  Her last dictation was over 1250 s long and most of it was just long pauses of silence while she decided what she was going talk about next.  Total major waste of my time and very frustrating.  The finished product was barely a page long!  Is there any way to zoom past those long pauses?  Some kind of shortcut key command or whatever?  Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

If it's ASR - AnotherMT

then you can move your cursor to right behind the next word and then do Ctrl-M and you can advance through some pauses that way. But if it's straight typing, then you're out of luck. Just put it on as fast as you can for the pauses and muddle through.

Thanks! - thornbird

zooming through pauses - me

I think there was a MQ Central email tip about this at one time, but I can't find it right now. Do this: While in the chart, go to "tools", then "options", then "speech recognition." Check the box near the bottom called "accelerated silent playback" and make sure the slider is set on 5 seconds. It doesn't zoom through, but it definitely speeds up the time you have to wait for the dictation to start again.

Long Pauses In Dictation
Jul 31, 2013

If the an audio is seriously long and the dictator only dictates a couple paragraphs, should I say something about this or just ignore it as part of the territory? Especially if it's the same dictator. Dictations like this drive me crazy because it wastes time and hurts production. ...

M*Modal Zoom & Audio Controls - Sm
Apr 19, 2014

I'm using M*Modal platform for the first time.  The biggest time waster is that only about 1% of the dictators enter demographics.  In the RIF screen to search demographics you cannot play the audio, only in the report itself.  Each time I have to exit the report I lose all settings for audio and zoom level and have to reset.  Does anyone know if there is a way to have both the report and the RIF screen visible at the same time?Anyway to set the point size for the displa ...

From What I Seen When Looking Up Past Docs In DQM
May 14, 2011

People are not doing a full listen/correction. There are some pretty blatant errors, and these errors are being repeated by subsequently dictating physicians who are obviously using other documents for information (as it should be). Blatant errors such as allergy to medications that don't even exit, blatant lab errors that are counter to some of the diagnoses. I shamefully admit to not doing a full listen when I first started voice recognition was back in the beginning, but quickly noted ...

Blast From The Past. Sm
Jan 08, 2015

I was purging papers and came across an earnings statement from TL in 2001 (yeah, I know, way overdue on cleaning out files). Back then, my base pay was 0.0925 and the 2-week pay after taxes, insurance, 401K was $1100. In comparison, today my base pay pretty much is 0.035 for VR and 0.07 for straight. It is possible to make a higher rate at Nuance, but it is not easy, so I do not expect it. My last take-home pay prior to the holidays was less than $600. Also, my TL line count was 3000 higher for ...

MTs And Unions, And Past Mistakes:
Nov 23, 2010

Same Situation, Past Coder

Anybody Seen A Raise In Pay Over The Past 3 Years?

Has anyone gotten any raises in pay over the past 3 years?  I know in these mean, tough times gratitude for having a job is important, but my thankfulness doesn't stop me from knowing that I have not had any increase in my pay since I started more than 2 years ago with the company I work for.  I am curious if any transcriptionist who has been steadily working for the same place for the past 2-3-4 years has seen a pay raise.  I am  frustrated with rising prices ...
