Blast from the past. sm - Transcriptions LTD.

Posted: Jan 08, 2015

I was purging papers and came across an earnings statement from TL in 2001 (yeah, I know, way overdue on cleaning out files). Back then, my base pay was 0.0925 and the 2-week pay after taxes, insurance, 401K was $1100. In comparison, today my base pay pretty much is 0.035 for VR and 0.07 for straight. It is possible to make a higher rate at Nuance, but it is not easy, so I do not expect it. My last take-home pay prior to the holidays was less than $600. Also, my TL line count was 3000 higher for those 2 weeks than the 2 weeks I checked prior to the holidays at Nuance. I am really embarrassed that I let things deteriorate to this point. One positive: I am *finally* motivated to look at my other career options. Thanks for letting me vent.

also worked for TL - ill share mine

In 2000, making 10 cpl, lines for 2 weeks were 22157, gross pay was $2215.70, take home nearly $1600.00 for 2 weeks!

Fast forward to 2014, making 6 cpl, average paycheck is $600 for 2 weeks! Yup... A $2000.00 pay cut a month!

So sad, and that was then - TL was the only game in town.

When I worked there my base was 10 cpl. They also provided all reference books (big stack including a giant medical dictionary) and computer and C-phone. I think they also chipped in for phone expenses.

Those were the days... *sigh*

yup... and dont forget the weekend differential - sm

I was offered 2 cpl extra to work on saturdays if needed. Heck yeah... 12 cpl... I worked every weekend! I was money hungry. We had no problems getting people to work weekends and holidays. Additionally, the holiday bonuses, the gifts at MT week, a personalized card! I felt like part of a family and I would do anything they asked for treating me so well. Such a crying shame.

I almost - forgot

about TL! Awwww....I loved my TL days before The Q bought them. I worked @ TL when they drove tapes out to my house every morning. They were awesome, and I made boo-koo bux back then (and also at The Q). I moved last year and threw away all the paperwork from TL, but that was an awesome time to be an MT.

Thanks for the memories!

I was in the Okabrook/Tinley Park division. I drove in at the time but would still get calls from Mike and Maureen and Mike being like a second dad, and with horrible weather, don't take the chance or stay home and work. It was a few weeks in the office, but "those were the days."

More misty, water color memories - of TL...

I had 3 accounts, my giant university hospital main and 2 giant university hospital backups which I rarely typed on unless asked. Work was always 3 or 4 days backed up, no TAT apparently in those days. Also no QA unless you had a question about something. Work when you want, as much as you want, and if you could get the kids, hubby or the family dog trained, they could work too. Word Perfect 5.1 and C-phone were little money machines you could tap day and night.

Ah yes....here's my "memories".... - what is too painful to remember....

Had my Dictaphone and 2 accounts that I knew like the back of my hand. We had a loose "schedule" but could really work whenever we wanted. Ah, back when I could stay up until 3 am happily working. I usually worked 9 or 10 hours a day but I loved it. Also made 10 cpl PLUS sometimes very nice bonuses for extra production. Often, usually at least once per PP, there would be a "bonus day" where everyone who worked that day would get an extra 50 bux for every 1000 lines typed. If we were extra backed up they'd sometimes offer $100 per 1000 lines. You actually had so much motivation to work extra. Oh, and where I worked (before it was MM or even MQ), they paid for your phone line and later internet when it went that way), not to mention provided all equipment and reference books needed. We'd receive nice letters from the big boss regularly telling us how well we were all doing. Oh, did I forget to mention to very nice medical insurance? The 401k 75% match? One last thing I remember fondly -- I was making 9 cents per line and got a call from my boss's boss telling me he was giving me a raise to 10 cpl.

Those days are gone.......but I was glad I could at least be part of that while it lasted....

Fond memories - of TL

You have all said it all - we worked hard for TL and all we needed was reasonable pay and an occasional thank you - the big companies today could learn a lot from those who ran TL back then. Stop hiring "nit-pickers" and pay the transcriptionist/editors a little better and problem solved....

Started for Transcriptions Ltd out of Feasterville PA in 1981. Back then it was a good job! I'm grateful I was able to raise my kids while working from home back then. No schedule, except to have your envelope out before the driver showed up. Want more work? Just a phone call away. Want less? Just call. Want to take off? Let them know, even if it's only a week or two ahead of time. They sent flowers when I had my babies and we always got a nice Christmas gift as well as an invitation to the company Christmas party in NJ. My 2 sisters also worked for them, so there were several years when we took the opportunity to go to the Christmas party. Good times.

From What I Seen When Looking Up Past Docs In DQM
May 14, 2011

People are not doing a full listen/correction. There are some pretty blatant errors, and these errors are being repeated by subsequently dictating physicians who are obviously using other documents for information (as it should be). Blatant errors such as allergy to medications that don't even exit, blatant lab errors that are counter to some of the diagnoses. I shamefully admit to not doing a full listen when I first started voice recognition was back in the beginning, but quickly noted ...
