Now I know I did the right thing in not only leaving the Q but leaving the field altogether. I had another physical last week and my blood pressure was back down to 120/70, and my doctor was very happy when he learned I had quit.

They wasted no time in sending me labels to ship the computer back, though. Oh well.. they don't want the monitor, or mouse, or keyboard, so I'm keeping those!

It's getting harder and harder to make myself sit down and work every day for this sorry excuse for a company. I filed for bankruptcy Friday, because with my dwindling pay I couldn't afford my house payments anymore. How ironic that the legal plan I belong to thru the Evil Q is paying most of my attorneys fees. Oh, and my car was repossessed too. Because of NJA, I don't work enough hours to make PTO anymore and when I do work I get the most Godawful stuff to type/edit and most of it is editing now, and it's so bad I'm correcting about every other word. Plus I get shifted from account to account with all of these CPs to read it makes me dizzy. I'm so sick of it, so disheartened that a company I've given 6 years of my life to is treating us so shabbily.

Wondering how people stay with a job that is making them broke and miserable. I don't get it at all. There are other solutions besides bankrupcy, car repossession and ending up living in your car right? Just sayin...

The economy stinks and many people are still out of work, and many are still losing their jobs as companies close or consolidate or move their operations to other countries.

Some MTs are the sole support for either themselves or their family. And some MTs have none or very little family or social support, and not many MTs have a rich uncle waiting somewhere on the sidelines to give them the financial help that they need.

The bank wants their mortage money or they will foreclose. The utilities want their bills paid or they will shut off the utilities. The car company wants their payment or they will repossess the car.

Meanwhile, the MTSO companies are cutting the MT's wages by 50% to 60% percent, sometimes even more, so many MTs are working harder but making less. Plus many MTSO companies are sending more and more medical records offshore to MTs in other countries.

So, for an MT in this situation, I think we need to try to have a little bit of compassion.

Tried applying elsewhere, but taking too long for a new job and it looks disappointing out there in this field. Trying to also go to school to GET OUT of this field and do something more meaningful, but it is difficult out there. Some areas are doing okay though.

I filed 6 months ago. Got rid of all bills but the utilities and mortgage. Had my mortgage loan modified, but it's still too high and I'm still struggling to pay it. Been looking for a second job, but nothing so far. Made $12,000 less last year than the year before, yet I'm doing more work than ever before. Hope things get better for us all!!

I left MTing after 27 years in the field. It was difficult to realize that the stress the last 10 years, especially the last few where we did not even get a good paycheck was making me ill. Finally, I just decided to stick with school and live on loans, which BTW are more than I made after tuition than as an MT. The loans do not bother me as I know my new career will take care of it with my graduate degree. I tried once going back to ICing but by the next day I was sick at the e mails about the client did not like this, etc. that I just decided to give up entirely. Sorry to say sometimes a business can truly make a person sick. Especially when manipulated as we have been by MTSOs and isolated at home away from other coworkers. Can you imagine being treated the way we have been in an office environment where men and women work together? Never would happen. All my best to you who choose to leave or stay with, but remember... your dying thoughts will not be: I wish I transcribed more... but I wish I spent more time living.

Just one more thought. I have never, ever, known anyone who has left Medquist or Spheris and regretted it. They may bounce back and forth just to get by, but in the long run, when they are finally finished, they are finished. Urine welkenton? Not sure of spelling, since I'm not sure it's really a word. They could also be saying welkington. That's what the dictation sounds like and I've listened to it several times on numerous days. Can't find a reference to it anywhere and I've tried many variations. Wondering if it's a really old term or if I'm completely misunderstanding. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! ...

I do believe now that they are starting to target those of us who were making 10/6. In the past, on my old accounts, I was audited no more than once a month. If I failed an occasional audit, they would wait another month to see how I did on that one and since I always passed, no action was taken. Just had a doctor dictate "potassium 40 mg," (should have been mEq) and then further down, "Levemir 40 mg" (should have been units). If I had not left blanks for them, that would have been 6 points off. It also compelled me to use my allotment of blanks for that report! But they, of course, do not get penalized for their mistakes. On the other hand, our pay is docked. There is a double standard here that needs to be changed. ...

that I have had in a dictation, and I am sure that the dictator (PA-C) is annoyed as well. It's always annoying when she chitty-chats with the "girls in the office" while dictating, but in this dictation, one of the girls is mocking back everything the dictator says and continues to do so, after a little chuckle from dictator each time, to the point where the dictator finally has to tell her that this is important, it is for an attorney and she cannot mess it up. ...

Could someone explain to me, IN DETAIL, the bonus pay above a 99%.
