Haven't seen this much work for a year...

According to this link, there are 3 Indian holidays sm - Old Woman

in August, so your sudden abundance in work is likely due to that. It would be interesting to follow this calendar and see whether your work increases during their holidays.

The time to strike would be during the Indian holidays. (Not that it is ever going to happen, of course!)

Yes, that is the smart thing to do. Strike and don't do any work the few times that that there is a lot of work to do. That would leave more for me. Thank you!

If it ever should happen that MTs got together and decided to do something about our situation, which I DOUBT will ever happen, the times to do it is when the Indians won't work for religious reasons which happens several times a year, for several weeks at a time. Then the MTSOs has a great big mess on their hands -- nobody working! Conceivably, if we pushed hard enough we might be able to get all the work back here, and this would be one of the most effective things we could do, strike when it hurts the most! (Of course, we also need to lobby congress to put a stop to this.) I did not make this comment because I resent the fact there is work this week for you, far from it. The point is, somehow or other, when we finally get fed up enough to do something, the fact that the Indians take long religious holidays would be a very valuable tool in our arsenal -- when they are not available we are not available either until they bring the work back home.

They have a lot of offshore choices to send to in an emergency. By holding a strike we would just expedite the process of losing our jobs. If they really need to, they also will just hire the newbies or MTs needing a job who are all willing to work for peanuts.

Here's the deal...my company says if/when you work a holiday, they will give you the equivalent hours in PTO to use later on (you work 8, you get 8 PTO). I checked with my state's DOL, and they said absolutely incorrect. You must be an exempt salaried employee for them to do this. They must pay regular employees cash money. Last holiday (Labor Day) I was paid a differential. It is usually time and a half so going by your base you will see an additional line on your paystub of holiday lines: ex. if your base rate is 0.08 you will see holiday pay 0.1200 x 1000 lines. Hi. My CCM sent out an email saying that work loads were going to be low because of the holiday and that we could take PTO for Monday if we wanted. My question is what if you don't have PTO? Does that mean you have to work the holiday or can you still request it off and just not get paid for it? I have always gotten paid time-and-a-half for holiday pay on the Fourth of July, which is one of Medquist's holidays (or so it is listed as and always has been), and was told by CCM we would be paid time-and-a-half for that Monday's work done since even though it wasn't the fourth, it is when it is nationally celebrated.
