Burned - MMO

Posted: Jul 13, 2012

I keep thinking about a thread from a week or so ago about minimum wage and LPH.  I remember I figured out in my state, 150 LPH is minimum wage up to 180 LPH.  Is is really worth it to bust my *** to get 200 LPH, if it only means 20 LPH more?  Does this make sense to anyone?  Is my logic or my calculations flawed?  It seems I would need to do considerably more than 200 to even make it worth my while to even try.  What's the point?

whats the point? - a paycheck....

Why would you intentionally keep your lines at minimum wage? If I have to drop to minimum wage, I will certainly find a mindless job instead of this. I do not think it is that hard to do well above 200 lph on ASR, so might as well make the money.

For some states, like California, lph is rather high and the effort - dnr

isn't worth it if you have one of those horrid accounts where ASR never gets it right. For some accounts, it is hard to get above 200.

Yesterday, in the 'cesspool' I had the wonderful experience of ending up doing an account that had very good ASR and put out a very good amount of lph. If I had this account all the time, making above minimum wage and above would be a snap.

That's it - OP

In my state, minimum wage is 5.5 CPL ASR, above my CPL. You're right, I was in the cesspool this morning and got some really nice ASR, made very few corrections. MTs who have these accounts do not really understand the crap we put up with. QA sends out emails telling us we are training it wrong, well what kind of MTs do we have in our BOB? Newbies who keep making the same mistakes over and over and messing up the ASR engine? Hard to make sense of it all. I can't get out soon enough.
They need to choose a select few MTs in each BOB to train ASR. - dnr

It's stupid to be mixing the good MTs with the bad MTs to train ASR. In the accounts with very good ASR, I have noticed that they are small hospitals and likely/may have only a few MTs doing them, hence the better ASR. Plus, I notice the smaller hospitals typically have English-speaking and better dictation. It was that way before MTSOs took away my work - the small hospital had good dictators and the large hospitals had more than their fair share of bad and English second language dictators. Back in the old days, before verbatim, we could help out the ESL doctors by making them look good by cleaning up their sentences, etc.
I get the impression its an ongoing thing - MMOM

From the way the emails are worded, I get the impression the training never stops. Like everyone must make the same corrections and if one person doesn't, ASR will not learn the right way. Also in working at a teaching hospital, interns come and go, so new ASR training to be done.

How does California have a different lph than - anywhere else?

We all are held to the same lph.
Minimum wage is 8.25/hour - MT

In order to make minimum wage in CA (8.25/hour), I have to type 180 LPH. 8.25 = 180 LPH = 5.5 CPL. Under 180 LPM, MModal has to make up the difference to get to 8.25.
Cali is min wage $8/hr not $8.25. not that i matters, just sayin. NM - anon

Unfortunately, MTSOs thumb their noses at min. wage. - I live in CA & only make $4.50/hr.

But that's only when my company even has work to do. As if it even mattered anymore. Even when they're swamped, you can't go fast enough to increase the pay rate over $4.50 because of their clunky, illogical, user-unfriendly software.
It is against the law not to pay minimum wage in Calif - dnr

If you are not an IC, in the state of California, the employer MUST pay AT LEAST minimum wage no matter where their headquarters are. If you have to punch the time clock, you must get AT LEAST minimum wage despite your LPH rate. The employer must make up the wage difference for employees (ie not IC).

Used Up And Burned Out!
May 10, 2013

Does anyone else ever feel this way? Lately, I have felt so bored and burned out. I know part of it is because I lost a great account and on boring old rehab and ER reports. Plus, I am in the process of getting out of this altogether and going back to school so my mind is really not here anymore. I just need to figure out how to make myself sit here and pump out the lines to make $$$ until then. What do the rest of you do when you feel this way? ...

Beyond Burned Out

Any ideas on how to get out of this, besides calling and quitting? I haven't got any negative feedback in a while, but I get the generic emails you all get about things being done wrong and you need to fix it... But they are nice and put "you are the best!!!" on the bottom o the email. So condescending. I am just so over this mess. ...

Burned Out On Job Applying, Testing Etc.
May 10, 2010

Are there NO decent places out there to work? Just when I see something that looks like what I am seeking and want to apply, all I see is negative posts.  I realize that everyone has their opinion and just because someone does not like it does not mean I would not etc. BUT, there are always more than one negative opinion, and all cases that I chose to ignore warnings, I walked right into the nightmare, just like they said I would. Seriously, is ANYONE happy where they work? Please tel ...
