Thank you for responding Will we be going into - apprenticeship program
[ In Reply To ..]
When they stopped the program in February they said if and when it started back up that we would go directly into apprenticeship status. Hoping they were telling the truth about that
no it will be completely different. half and half again but - directly into coding in October

in time for ICD10. Also looking at this board it looks like just in time because everyone here thinks MM will be doing mostly front end soon.

Give it time and they will figure out a way to get rid of coders as well. Seems like no medical job is exempt.
On the quarterly call they were excited about - coding in India and their India

big dogs are working hard to make happen as fast as possible. You should've heard the Mmodal webcast if you doubt their intense focus on shifting coding overseas just like they did MT. Not sure how you consider these scary facts "lashing out." Nobody thinks any of it is a good thing, but it is what is happening & sticking your head in the sand doesn't make it go away.
Sorry, that is not the industry prediction. - sm

You sound like you have Stockholm syndrome.
Sorry, but that is not the industry prediction. It is one company's grandiose thinking. It is a lot like the cheering that goes on at Amway conventions.
MModal is not the biggest, most powerful, most important company on earth, nor does it have a very extensive involvement in HIM overall, nor does it have a very good reputation.
It may be difficult for you to see that because you are an employee and only hear their version of things. You are a lot like a hostage who only hears the hostage-trader's version of things. You believe they are taking over the earth because they say so.
The truth is that not everyone knows about them and those who do think their work is horrible. They are not all-important in HIM. We don't see them as potential vendors of coding services.
They just think they can cash in with ICD10. The way they handled the coding students indicates that they have little idea what facilities expect. Those coders can't certify in anything because they were never trained in outpatient or CPT. And we do not tolerate our work being done by noncredentialed people. We require that we know who everyone is, just as if we hired them.
I think some facilities may use them, but the rest of us use legitimate HIM staffing companies. (Right, I do not work for MModal. I used to, but got out and now work in HIM.)
Your view that they are taking over is incorrect and paranoid. They are not the volcano gods you think they are.
and you are wrong as well. You admit you do not work for - M2 and you most certainly do not

know what our training program entailed. We will be trained on CPT and outpatient in our next wave of training. We will be able to sit for exams and in fact are encouraged to do so as we will given a raise if we are credentialed. There are many of us already in a coding program and some are even certified. So don't think we are all just idiots because we are getting a free education through a company you all despise. Some of us were already coders with credentials that could not get a job because we didn't have experience and were stuck with MT work. For them, this is a stepping stone to outside work after their contractual obligation is fulfilled.
That being said, I agree with your last statement. The MTs on this board are quite myopic and don't realize that most facilities don't even know who MModal is.
Oh, they'll know who MModal is pretty soon. - sm

But I don't believe they ARE held to the same standards as us.
ILPs will also take away coder jobs. Don't delude yourself.
if you believe that then it is obvious you know little to nothing - about coding.

For your information, I was in coding before switching to tranwscription. Realizing it was a mistake but now not so sure as things seem to be outsourced and off shored.
Granted I know nothing about ICD-10.

I guess we are just lowly MT/ME employees who are oblivious.
You seem to possess a lot of knowledge. M-Modal is lucky to have you. Keep up the good work.

I thought we were all on the same team. Not one of us is more important tnan the other. All of us contribute to the end product.

The almighty dollar speaks louder than accuracy and integrity, if you haven't noticed. They're ramping Indians up for it right now, just like they did MT. It may take another year or two, but then they'll be ready to monopolize this too. The only safe job is one that has to be done in person.
Why did you feel a need to lash out? No one said - anything about MT.
[ In Reply To ..]
No one said anything negative about MT, yet you felt you had to lash out? That tells everyone the real issue here is JEALOUSY. You just resent the people who got into this program and want to hurt them.
exactly. And dont forget the pilot program people are paving the - way for the rest of us.

we may need their help one day!!! Let's all stick together and get through this :)
"The only safe job is one that has to be done in person." - That is lashing out? LOL.
would you please come back here occasionally and update us on how things are going? I would love to know how this program works and how you all feel about it. I understand how posting on here you get attacked by rude people but I'm not one of them and would honestly like to hear your perspective on this program. A big thank you if you choose to keep us updated but I understand if you don't. Good luck to all of you. ...
What sort of schedule options were you given for after completion of the training phase and the apprenticeship phase? Is it M-F, night/days, holidays? Thanks for satiating a bit of curiousity. ...
I start 12/27, so I would love to hear how day 1 of training went. I know there were at least a few starting today. Especially the BeyondTXT platform. Thanks! Hope you all had a great day!

I don't know why people want to rip me a new one over this, but
I would simply like to know if Mmodal treats it current coder employees (NOT ITS TRAINEES) any better than its treats ts MTs.
How may pay cuts have you had in the last 5 years?
How many benefits have you had cut?
What kiind of audit percentage do you have to meet?

When asked to code pulmonary nodule, with no other information, how can you tell the correct code? Under nodule I see pulmonary, solitary 793.11, I see lung, solitary 793.11 & solitary, lung 518.89. I already know that the 518 one is correct but I have no idea why. ...
(1) Do you only fail if you fail a final at the end of the course, or are there tests throughout the course you have to pass to continue on?
I assume if you do not pass a test to pass on, they cannot charge you for the course.
(2) Did they ever tell you how much that would be?
After all, it is not a credentialed for-profit coding school, they are probably using their already in-house employees as instructors, and they aren't providing any high dollar book material.  ...
Hello,
I would like to transcribe from home again. However, I HAVE to get up and walk for a few minutes at least once an hour. You see, I had to have 2 back surgeries in the last 18 months. I've been a transcriptionist for many years and this is my profession. Does anyone have a suggestion what to tell these companies that will hire you to work from home when you have to get up so much? The last company I tried had a "pop-up" box that appeared on my screen if you were up longer than 10 min ...
Hello all. I am currently an MT and for many reasons I am considering leaving that career. I was wondering about coding and billing. How is the pay? As an MT I have seen the pay go down considerably over the years and was wondering if coding/billing is in the same boat. Also, would you recommend becoming a coder in this economy? Which school has the best program? Thanks. ...
Anyone who went into coding from MT, are/were you a CMT and if so did you keep your CMT credential up after being in coding a while or did you let it fall away seeing really no further need for it? Having to keep up coding credentials is enough and I wonder if I really need to keep it. Any reasons why I should keep it? ...
Question about coding bootcamps, does anyone have any experience with HCPro bootcamps? I have been an MT for 17+ years and want to switch to coding. Would this be appropriate for someone with my background? Thanks for the help. ...
I'm not a medical coder. The only ties I have to the medical profession is that I'm a patient. This transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10, exactly how is this happening. Do you all have to go back to school to learn ICD-10? From the outside looking in, it sounds like a major undertaking, but hopefully it's not. ...
I am posting to (hopefully) give coding students hope, not to get dislikes on my post, but it is what it is. Here's my story: I graduated from coding school about a year ago, after being an MT for over 25 years. I am working as a coder and I am learning every day (reminds me of back in the day as a a new MT). There were so many days when I wanted to give up on coding because, let's face it, it's not easy, but I didn't. I honestly think I will make it as a coder, but I probabl ...
Just saying hi, and I really appreciate this board. I've been lurking for a while. I went to Career Step for medical transcription, but soon after graduating, I found the quick turn around time for MT just didn't work for my toddler and homeschooler, so I switched to GT.
Now, 5 years later, it's time to switch things up again, and I've always been interested in the behind the scenes medical paperwork (as nerdy as that sounds!). So feeling kind of lost, I de ...
The following is a post I found on the AAPC web site. I asked the poster first if it was okay to re-post here and he said okay.
Quote begins as follows:
My first coding job was about six years ago. I had called a local college asking about some health billing classes and as I was about to hang up the phone I asked the lady "by the way how do you get your first job in this field?". She said "it's kind of tough, but wait, someone put a card up on the board yesterday...". She got a car ...
I am planning on enrolling in Andrews School to begin a new career in medical coding and also plan to become certified following that. While looking at job opportunities, I see that most ALL job openings require 2-5 years experience in this profession. On the other hand, I also read where this field of work is in demand of more coders. Obviously, after finishing my course and becoming certified, I don't expect to walk right in and nail down the first job or two that I ...
I hope this is not a dumb question, but do need some enlightening. I was at my doctor's office this morning and in the midst of the exam we got to talking about my goal to take the medical coding schooling (through Andrews). She was concerned that with the EMR process today, medical coders would not be as involved with actual coding as they have been in the past and therefore the job market not as promising. My doctor's clinic has the computer screen in the office and she sh ...
I am an MT considering going to school for coding. I have been reading the message boards of the coding professional organization and found it to be full of comments from new certified coders who can't find jobs without experience, and some have been looking for over a year. I am leaving the MT field after only 6 years due to salaries going into the tank with SR. I think coding would be a good fit for me, but hate to spend thousands of dollars and a year of school time on ...
Hello everyone. I have posted here before about this topic. I am thinking about taking a coding course, probably through Andrews, and was wondering which credential to get first...the CPC or CCS? Which one is more desirable for employers? If there are any other credentials I would need, please let me know because I have just started researching this. Thank you. ...
I have read many of your postings and find them all to be extremely intelligent, informative, and logical. Here is my situation. Seven years as MT (mostly acute care accounts with H&P's, discharge summaries, consultations, operations and procedures). I have a BA in biology and a master's in ecology. Was making good income until editing replaced transcribing, plus industry rates keep going down with constant buyouts/mergers. I am 61 years old.

I just wanted to share my experience with those who are interested in reading. I discovered this board about 2 years ago. Actually, I used this board very frequently when I was a MT, and then discovered the coding/medical billing link and started to peruse the coversations. I did what I could to find out how to research coding schools, ask the important questions, and I decided to attend Andrews. Absolutely no regrets there. I started my coding training first throug ...
I am grappling with something in my mind. Can you clarify it for me? What would be the difference between a late effect and a past history when you are coding? In my book they say "Leg pain resulting from old fracture" or "Intellectual disability due to previous poliomyelitis". And that's obviously a late effect. But in my mind, I just can't see doctors telling you that so prettily and obviously. How do you know if something is a late effe ...
"Idiots!!! Take the FREE LUNCH!"
"OMG! What is wrong with them?"
"Who ARE these people? Are they insane? They have to be insane."
"And they think coders only make that much? Hahahahaha!"
