Would any of the radiology transcription services out there please share what the going rate for per report charge for complicated rad reports, mainly CT and MR's would be? Converting over the current line charge these reports average $4.00 +/- a few. Out of curosity, what is the going per report charge for plain films? Although info welcomed on what experienced rad trans get, most specifically need to know what business owners charge the clients. Very strict short turnaround as well. Any info appreciated.

From my observation, it seems that each client negotiates their rates with the MTSO, so each account varies slightly. Back in the Golden Olden days (1980s) I was paid hourly for rad transcription. Then in the more recent Olden Days (early 1990s) I was paid by line, 9 cpl. When I switched companies I was introduced to per report pay for rad reports, which in my experience has been the worst possible situation for an MT. At first it started out okay at $1.25 per report, paid links and a premium rate for special procedures and sometimes nuclear medicine ($2.80).

But that has all been steadily whittled down so that now I'm on a crap account that pays $1.00 per report, we don't get paid for links, and there is no premium for long reports or specials. The docs routinely link between 2-4 reports and as many as 6 MRI exams and dictate them all as one long blabby report, 8+ minutes long, and all I get is a lousy $1. Some of the docs who dictate specials are ESL and they take FOREVER, and I still get a lousy $1 per report. The account requires a lot of emails to the client, and sometimes in addition to all the long reports all day long I might send between 80-95% emails with the reports.

On top of that, the docs stat all the MRIs and CTs, and a couple of docs stat everything, even plain films, so I'll spend all day just typing stat reports, and this client requires an email for each stat report. If I could get to a block of plain films once in a while it would help my count tremendously, but that might only happen once or twice a month, not enough to make a difference.

Don't fool yourself into thinking you'll make a living wage getting paid per rad report, it's stacked against the MT. I make less than minimum wage now despite having over 23 years of rad MT experience. I haven't qualified for benefits for over 3 years because I can't make make the minimum daily requirement on my accounts.

You're probably wondering why I stay if things are so bleak. Well, it just doesn't seem that things are any better anywhere else. And at my age and for the amount of time I've been an MT, I'm very pigeonholed into this job and I just can't figure out what skills are transferrable to another line of work. If I could afford to quit I would, this is a dying profession. Good luck to you, sounds like you're just starting out.

Not all MTSO are created equal...I hope you are able to move on to a better company. If I understand your post correctly, this is your pay from MTSO/company, not as the MTSO yourself? And is it at IC status or employee? I agree with you, what has been done with MT wages really stinks. I have been very fortunate over the years. Thank you for responding.

So has anyone encountered the MUP report?
