forensic pathology - Cecil

Posted: Jan 06, 2010

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to know if anyone could tell me what companies transcribe for M.E's offices or Hospitals for Forensic Pathology (autopsies).

I have been involved in the business for 3 yrs and now am looking to work from home with this as my primary background.

I appreciate any feed back.

Thank you!Laughing

I know that our local counties keep everything in house. This is for confidentiality reasons as well as turn around. They have a full time transcriptionist on staff. Our local ME is Dr. G from the TV show, so her stuff is often high profile. She prefers to keep it in the building to avoid media leaks.

Cecil: I just sent you a huge reply, but I don't see it. Why do you want to work for peanuts in the United States? I have transcribed for 43 years, acute care, pathology, imaging, everything. But, the best and most exciting time of my transcription career was spent working in the hospital system of Saudi Arabia. The best equipment, all expenses paid, including housing, utilities, cable, 53 paid vacation days each year, 30 paid sick days each year, completion of 2 year contract bonus, paid round-trip ticket home after 8 months of service every year you work, fantastic food, and wonderful, wonderful multicultural coworkers. Google: HCCA (good recruiter), King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (not Center), King Abdulaziz National Guard Hospital in Riyadh, King Fahad Hospital in Jeddah on the Red Sea (Egypt is just a day away ... lots of white beaches and snorkling). It is totally safe!!!!! The housing is very, very, very nice. I had my own apartment at one time. Each hospital compound has several gyms, Olympic size pools, a grocery store, a video store, dry cleaners, etc. Some hospitals have a what they call a Social Club on the weekends, and you can sign-up for out-of-city tours. I celebrated my 50th birthday on a fabulous Social Club picnic in the red sands. The International Hotel refrigerated truck pulled up, loaded with food, served by waiters in tuxedos, under a traditional Bedouin tent. I kid you not!!! If you complete your 2-year contract, there is a completion bonus of $5000, at least that's what it used to be. Your initial trip there, your round-trip home each year, and your final trip home is all paid for and you fly on Saudia (very plush). The attending physicians are mostly from the UK and Australia, some from America. The remaining attendings from India, Egypt, etc., speak English as a second language, but they do it very well. All of the residents are Arab. This experience and being at ease with ESL speakers looks great on your resume. They use the same dictation/transcription equipment (VoiceWriter, Word, etc.) we use, as well as the same formats. There is e-mail. The hospitals are all accredited by the United States. Each hospital has an anatomic path lab, and a clinical lab, as required by accreditation. It's the same as working at a large hospital here. You make friendships that last a lifetime, AND, people invite you to visit them in their country. Google ARAMCO, and contact HCCA, the best recruiter. Go East, young person. It is still, and always was very safe and the experience of a lifetime. If I wasn't 64, I'd be there right now. I met an American nurse who had worked there her entire career, 30 years. Did I mention there are no U.S. taxes. Your money all belongs to you, and you don't have living expenses, except for food, gold, and TRAVELING. And, you will learn terminology you would never hear in the States. Mumtaz! (Fabulous!). Masalama (Bye) .... You do pick up a little bit of Arabic which is also fun.

Well, you could do that ,or.... - HatesLosers

you could Google forensic pathologists and send your resume to the hits....whichever you think might be easier.

Cecil: All of the information I gave you is current within the last 5 years. My last entry visa was stamped 9/11/2001. I waited a month, and then left for my last contract. My Saudi friends were humiliated and very apologetic about their radicalized countrymen. Also, the exchange rate is stable: $1 buys 350 Riyals. Pretty good exchange rate. Gold is sold by the gold price of the day, not by the workmanship of the jewelry. You can buy 24K gold coins. There are souks upon souks (markets) in the old part of town at the Masmak Palace that sell nothing but gold. Forgot to tell you that there is a limo service on every hospital compound. You don't need a car to get around. Just call the limo service and a nice English-speaking driver will pick you up in a Camry. You sort of adopt your driver and always ask for the same guy. If you can't stand to be away from American products, Riyadh and Jeddah have Safeway, Kentucky Fried, McDonalds, Taco Bell, etc. The seafood is abundant in the markets and oh, so fresh. If you are a woman, yes, you must wear the abaaya and head scarf when you leave the hospital compound, but not while on the compound. You get used to it and it comes in handy for hiding all those extra pounds you put on from eating that fabulous food. If you go to Riyadh, take a trip to the Turkish restaurant. Just tell your driver, please take me to the Turkish. The smell of fresh flat bread right out of the oven is overwhelming. The lamb is to die for. Give my affectionate regards to Matine, the restaurant manager. He remembered my name after a 2 year absence I took to deal with breast cancer, but I went back as soon as I could because the lifestyle is addicting. ALSO, all medical and dental care is free to you, including surgery if you need it. At least go to the HCCA web site. Also Google Bahrain (an island off Dubai in the UAE). They have lots of employment opportunities. I wish you the best of luck. It is the experience of a lifetime. Sheilah

Anyone Ever Done Forensic Transcription?
Jul 02, 2012

Any experience with working for a county coroner's office, doing autopsies?  Is it mind-numbing?  Extremely difficult?  Lots of detailed pathology?  Is it something like transcribing a narrative of the physical findings, more like a lab/pathology report, or a combination of both?   I'm wondering if someone who has years of experience as an acute-care hospital transcriptionist (all specialties and work types but no Rad or Path) might be able to do this type of ...
