Who are the owners of this web site? - Me Again

Posted: Jan 17, 2015

It's good that the moderators are aware at how much they suck at their jobs. (See the post below.)  But I'm genuinely curious about who owns this web site.

Owner, are you a former or current MT?  Do you live in the U.S. or a foregin country?  Moderators, how about yourselves?  Are you former or current MTs?  Do you live in the U.S.?

If you're not willing to answer these questions, why is that?   Why not admit you're not MTs?  Why not admit you're foreigners?  Why not admit you bought this website for the ad clicks?   Because I see nothing on here--no FAQ--that talks about who or what you are.

Because I have to be honest, soemtimes the "moderation" shows an appalling lack of United States cultural understanding.  I'm talking about some of the Politics posts and the Gab Board posts.  You allow people to be openly racist and when people speak up--maybe in a snarky way, but sometimes racism deserves snark--you ban them.

Thank you for this post! - NT

I was personally banned due to speaking my mind, only to read other posts that are incredibly insulting and, yes, racist, that remain on board. There are a few posters on here who routinely attack others and are allowed to do so. There does not seem to be any balance in moderation - and I sometimes think moderation is done according to one's political leaning.

I sent an email asking ownership info - 2 years back

[ In Reply To ..]
and was told that site is registered outside of US but ran by US MTs to escape legal liabilities and subpoenas requesting email, ip addresses etc by various MTSOs being bashed on Company Board.

I have no problem if someone is hidden out there just to ensure safety of our personal info and providing 'freedom of speech' playground.

By the way, who would like to own these freakin' boards? Would you?

Im a moderator, not of the politics or gab boards - Im an MT for 19+ years

[ In Reply To ..]
I was born in the US, midwest, and have no clue who the other moderators are or who owns the board. I dont get paid, I try extremely hard to be fair. I edit all foul language, and delete posters who are deliberately attacking another poster, and very rarely ban anyone. I am following the posting guidelines only.

I don't believe there should be ANY moderation - Just Me

I'm an adult and I can definitely choose to read what I want and skip over what I don't. Of course there are racist people and that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If I begin reading a thread and I see comments that I don't want to read, I don't. I don't have to have a third party come in and remove it off, because maybe it offends me. I think if you have a few racists on here or whatever, let them speak among themselves. It's just not our business.

In my opinion, the opening posting of racism and - responses to it

[ In Reply To ..]
is the only way to bring into into light and possibly "cure" it. It will not take place immediately, but seeds are planted, never knowing which comment will affect someone's thinking.

Many people don't realize that they are racist until someone points out the discrepancy in their thinking. This can be done constructively.

I've never seen any "racist" postings here - Any links to them?

Check out the Politics board. Enough racist - posts to gag a maggot.

Too much PC in a world that is supposed to honor freedom of speech. No, I do not condone racism. However, as humans, we are free to think and speak how we choose. It is another person's onus if he or she is offended just as, as you stated, is everyone's choice to read or not read a post. To restrict freedom of speech, whether one likes what is being said or not, is to pave the way to a dictatorship. Accountability includes taking responsibility for one's own action as much as it does for being a mature adult and overlooking offensive speech.

if racism is fine, responding to racism is fine, too - sm

I have no problem with others speaking their mind. I have a big problem with not being allowed to speak mine in return, and I have had numerous deletions, missives, and threats from the moderator each and every time I have identified a racist remark.

Evidently, questioning racism is far more inflammatory than racism itself. If opinions are welcomed, and words are not forbidden, it's hard for me to understand why it is NOT okay to question racism, but it IS okay to EXHIBIT racism.

Those of us who have been here for years know the history sm - acuteMLS

of this site, who owned it before, and what happened when ownership changed.

It's a privately-owned site, why do you feel entitled to know who, what and why? Leave if you don't like it, we really have the choice of being here or not.

Observations - Should have known better

A person does not have to be a current or former MT to moderate a web site to be able to identify inappropriate content. Frankly, it's none of your business. Name a website that isn't advertiser supported. If you have a Facebook page I'm sure you are familiar with their advertising and how they use your personal information. I would personally like to see this become a password protected closed forum. Anyone and everyone, MT or not, can participate, no one asks for their credentials or nationality. Why is there a politics board on a medical transcription forum, that has nothing to do with MT at all.

I agree -- - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I agree. I would rather that it become a board where all posters were required to register, so that there was some control.

There are posters here who are obviously not MTs and who seem to be here just to post disruptive material about anything and everything.

Do that, and people will leave in droves. If you - want to register, go to that "other" site.

[ In Reply To ..]
That "other" site is so controlled and boring, you'll have to pry your eyes open with toothpicks while you're on it.
What is the "other" site? - Starzzz
[ In Reply To ..]
I would like to check it out. Thanks
I'm pretty sure we're not allowed to mention - other sites here, or I would give it.
[ In Reply To ..]
Hint: It's been around longer than MT Stars, and also starts with the letters "MT".

There's a politics board on an MT site because - otherwise it would overrun MT convos.

If we can use electronics, furniture, clothing, oil, vehicles, machines, pharmaceuticals, food and alcohol from China, India, Japan, UK, france, Germany, Saudi Arabia and Russia, so what's wrong using a Pakistani board?
