Template use. - onlymesaying

Posted: Dec 11, 2012

The company I work for no longer allows the MT to use their own templates.  They took the templates we had, gave them to the client, and their staff either made extreme changes or threw them out and wrote new ones.  Of course, the new templates never follow what the doctor says because they don't hear what is being dictated on a day-to-day basis.  I waste tons of time editing and now I only get paid 0.01 for those lines.  That turns into about a 15-20% cut in wages.  Are there any companies that still let the MT use and get paid for templates?

how did they take your templates? - sm

and can't you just remake new ones to your own specifications?

I'd just make my own and save in the expansion program. - Angie

Taking templates - MT

They either ask the MT/MTSO for the templates, which some do not realize are owned by the person who created them, or they may be stored in the transcription program in their "normal" feature or in the short-key feature and are taken without permission.

This is the exact reason why MTs should not add their normals/templates to a transcription program that can be accessed by anyone else and, if told by anyone that you must share your normals/templates, make it clear that you own them and you will not make them available for anyone's use.

Management sent an email requesting our templates and some of our expansions. The platforms, of which Emdat is one, codes their template, which automatically loads according to the account. If you would erase it and try to use your own, they would know. They would catch it on quality checks for sure.

Are the templates coded? How do they know you used a template? Can they tell if you use your own?? - Angie

What are they coded as? - Who would be concerned if it was your own?

Not sure what you are asking . . . do the templates have codes so someone can tell whose it is? Or do coders code from that type of documentation?

If the first, I doubt it. There would be no reason for that.

Yes, any kind of documentation can be used by coders. We do not code the documentation itself but the patient care that is described in the documentation.

Can coders tell if a template was used? Maybe. When they all start looking alike you kind of think it must be. Former MTs tend to recognize it faster.

It does not matter how the documentation was created. The doctor takes responsibility when he signs it.

My workload is 98% or more template- based. If you are an IC and you created the templates, they are legally yours. The doctor only owns the medical record as it pertains to that patient, and your templates are considered tools and copyright protected. I was only getting paid 1.5 cpl for transcription for years, going out of business until I renegotiated my wages.

I know this for certain, and AHDI also had an article on this. My accounts wanted me to "turn in my templates to physicians," ones I spent a fortune creating. They had already done this to me once, but it was not my account yet but another MTSO. They loaded my templates into their EMR, and off they went as well as my job.

agree. they have no right to your templates - nm

Is this on the Emdat platform? - just curious

That is the only company I was aware of paying 1 cpl for template work. If it is, then the system should be paying you for the changes you make at your regular line rate and paying 1 cpl for the intact parts of the template.

Template Use Question
Mar 15, 2010

Can someone tell me how to use a template in word on consecutive pages?  I know how to use it for the first page but can't figure out how to use it for say, 50 pages in a row.  A doctor wants his letterhead used as a template which I have scanned in but can only seem to use it for the first page.  Some of his letters are only one page and some are two or three (which wouldn't use the letterhead) but the whole dictation might be 50 or so pages.  I just can't fig ...

Making A Template With Word
Jan 13, 2010

I've been messing around with Word a bit the past few days, trying to figure out how to make a "jump" function, where I can put a symbol or letter, number, etc. in certain places of a master document so I can hit a control + letter key or whatever and have the curser jump to that particular symbol/letter.  I track all of my document IDs and Job IDs and I'd like a master to use every day so I can avoid all the tabbing, entering, etc.  Throughout the day, the first 3 numbers of ...

Template Reports Suspicious
Oct 22, 2013

HELLPPPP...anyone good at figuring out how to make a template?  client has a form that they sent and it has headers and footers each page.  They have a separate letter form, consult form and chart note.  Then there is a summation sheet at the beginning and STAT sheet at the end.  They want all of this done in one long document, i.e. hard page break between each patient.  I have played with this till blue in the face.  If I try to put the plain summation sheet first, ...

Question About Nuance Policy On Qualified (template) Lines
Dec 03, 2014

I was originally with one of the ambulatory groups that came through the back door of Nuance.  Our old ways of doing things have slowly been phased out since Nuance acquired us.  Currently I get 8.5 cpl for standard lines and 1 cpl for qualified (template) lines.  I haven't gotten the email about the video yet, but I've been reading on here about the new 7 cpl rate. What about template lines? Does Nuance pay for template lines? Thanks...  ...
