I work in a third-world country called medical transcription.  :D  yee-hah!! But I'll have you know I LOVE my job and wouldn't have it any other way.  Right.

And you are - "Very much appreciated"!

A bunch of BS!!!!

OMG I thought you were my boss - 4 a minute

but then I realized it was close but not quite the "Thanks for all you do!"

What are we doing? We should have our own businesses. I'm self employed but I'm still not self employed. :D

That's IT! I'm doing it. Come work with me.

Notice I said with me and not for me.

We're probably going to need another website. Oh wait, I'm building one now. ;)

I just checked and I averaged $6.79/hr BEFORE taxes - Depressed

Question is, what are we going to do about it?

There are options! ;)

I'm coming up on 21 years' experience. How about you? My least amt of exp is OB, Path, and Radiology - not that I couldn't do them as well as the rest of it.

What options?! - Depressed

I have over 35 years' experience and have worked for 4 different companies (3 within the past 4-1/2 years) and they are all about the same. :(
I'm trying to work on something - IMANMT2

I don't know if I'll get it done before any more irreparable damage has been done to our profession or even how successful it will be. But it will be another option that will benefit MTs and doesn't include a boss. And independently contracting MTs will be ICs and not misclassified employees.

It will not include working as a medical office assistant-come-transcriptionist for less money. That does not help our fellow MTs, especially the ones who can't quit MT.

Ewww. I'd PAY 4.67 an hour to NOT have to - do this job. n/m

You make more than I do - Funny, but not funny

This past pay period I managed to make 2.24 one day, 4.74 another day, 1.18 another day, 4.68, 6.30 (that was my highest day), 1.76, etc. This includes having to sit at my computer keep checking for work but having no jobs come in. However, electric, gas, food, etc is going up.

But at least I'm appreciated.

I Made $6.75 An Hour Today.
Dec 24, 2013

I worked 7.18 hours today. I at breakfast at my desk, lunch at my desk. I got to transcribe 2 reports which came up blank for some reason? So, I just did the math, made 6.75 an hour. It makes me sick. Merry Christmas CEO and upper staff, hope the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future visit you tonight, not that it would do any good. To the rest of you, who are in the trenches like me MERRY CHRISTMAS, MAY THE NEW YEAR BRING US A BETTER LIFE WHERE WE ARE ACTUALLY APPRECIATED AND C ...

Anyone Ever Pay Monthly Taxes For Taxes Owed
May 12, 2014

I owed a bit of money for last years taxes, which I do not have so am making monthly payments.  I sent in the form to request to pay monthly, but have not heard anything back.  Has anyone done this and is this unusual (that I have not heard back anything)?  I was reading all these websites and they were saying just keep mailing in what you can each month until it's paid off and then you might owe penalties, which I understand.  It stinks, but right now I have more bills ...

I know none of us get paid by the hour, but I was just wondering if any of you have ever figured out just how much you earn per hour, based on a 40-hour week. I'm just trying to figure out where I fit in. I seem to be earning $16-18/hour give or take based on how my week goes.  ...

Average Per Hour With 0.75 Or 0.375 Versus $12.00 Per Hour
Mar 31, 2014

My transcription job was always paid by the hour. I was laid off and they recently offered me a temp position with them making $12.00 an hour.  I was also offered a positon that pays 7.5 and 3.5 cpl.  The $12.00 is employee status for a small local company I worked for over 9 years.  The other is an IC position.  Do you think I would make more with the $12.00 an hour or the per line production rate?  I have never done production by line work so I'm not sur ...

Do Taxes Yourself?
Jan 26, 2011

I would like input on whether you do your taxes yourself or take them to a professional?  I had a local accounting firm do mine for a few years and now they are just H&R Block and the rate I pay keeps going up.  I have looked at a few do your taxes online yourself and H&R seems to be reasonable online (half of what the place charges).  Who does their taxes themselves and what is your experience with it?  Thanks for any help or advice you can give.  ...

IC Taxes
Jun 13, 2012

I have been an employee since the start of my career and never had to worry about taxes.  For some time I have been entertaining the thought of taking an IC position on the side, but then I was told that as a self-employed person I would be carrying 35% tax liability.  That scared me out of my wits.  I am sure this does not apply literally, but I want to know how things would pan out for an IC who earns $45,000 in a calendar year.  How would you break things up as expenses in ...

Re PTO Taxes, Breaks
Jul 03, 2012

ok here's the dirt from payroll. If you are paid a lump sum such as PTO, the IRS  considers it "supplemental" and taxes it at 25%! So, if you're considering leaving, best to take all the PTO you have before. Wish I would have known that before. As far as paid breaks, I didn't realize it was "state" dependent...so thanks for that information. Cudos for KY this time requiring a break after 4 hours.  Either way, it would not have mattered to me as I took a break whenev ...
