I am really needing some help asap - sm

For the first time, I cannot pay my credit card bills. I am hoping I can get some advice from someone here on what I should do. I have no extra at all to pay on them (there are 3 of them and they total $100 a month). I have already contacted them to ask what they can do for me, but what do you all suggest?

I have had to default on my credit cards, and when I had to make a choice between a roof, heat, lights, water, and food, they greedy banks who caused the financial collapse can work with me or write it off as far as I am concerned.

The worst case scenario is a judgment in court but the majority of them don't take it that far. If they do, then you might have to think about the nasty "B" word.

I bet there are a lot of people in this economy right now that wishes that was their worst fear! They are homeless and/or unable to put food on the table for their kids.

Dave Ramsey has a very good program on managing your money and paying off your debt. I believe he suggests calling your credit card companies and working out a new payment plan with them. If you only have $50 per month instead of the $100 needed to pay all of them, maybe you could pay $15 to each or something like that. I think as long as you are working with the credit card companies and sending them some money they will be willing to work with you and not take you to court. Calling them and seeing what they can do is also worth a try. After they are paid off, cut those credit cards up! They are nothing but trouble. I managed to pay off about $20,000 in credit card debt that we had accumulated from bad times and will never go back to using them again.

You are always better off working with them. Don't ignore their calls. I agree that they will likely work something out for you. Defaulting and claiming bankruptcy makes everyone's interest rates to higher, including your own if you ever get cards again.

One thing we do is have just 2 cmain ards, and NO department store cards, just Discover and Mastercard are our choice. Everybody takes either one or the other, so there's no reason to get a Sears card, a Home Depot card, or any other store card. You have more control that way and can "see" what you're spending easier.

We also never spend more on the card more than is in the bank, because then you are paying interest on the card, or robbing Peter to pay Paul and the cycle just goes on and on.

fix or solve anything. I came on here a while back regarding my debt issues just over 3 years ago. I am still hacking away at them. I have some pretty serious debt though, yours is not as bad as mine. I pay out close to $1K a month and that is with 2 on hardship plans. I will have most everything done in about 3 years. Our house will be paid off in about 18 months so I will take the monthly mortgage money and use it to finish off the debts at that point. BUT talk to then, glad you posted, decided to look at one of my cards and the new deal I just set up8/29/11, apparently they were blowing smoke...have not set my account up for it, just autopay. So they are checking it out now, luckily had the date of the call and the name of the guy who supposedly set me up. So hope to have that fixed shortly and $300 more credited to my account there due to what the deal was (crediting back $155 a month in interest which is about $205). --- of course when you are late they want a payment that day, but if you cannot pay, then just tell then you have nothing and you will make a payment on the next due date, they will want you to double your payment though to get caught back up, and will most likely raise your interest rate since you missed a payment. If payment is a problem for you from now on then look up the CCCS, it does work. It was not feasible for me as I actually worked out better deals on my own for the big one and it was not worth it for me to go from no interst to 10% on that one. --- So do call them, they will work for you, ask for a hardship plan, they will work out a monthly payment, low to no interest, autopay payment (they love those as they know they will get paid-- in theory). Same boat here...just couldn't make the payments any longer. I called to let them know that I was in hardship and couldn't make the payments. They lowered and froze my interest rates to like 3% and 6%, they no longer charge me late fees, and they set up a payment plan with me. They allowed me to split my payments into four so every Friday they take a little bit out. This makes it seem like the blow is not so bad each month! This was Bank of America for 3 credit cards and then I was working with Chase on one...they didn't lower the payments really, but they lowered the interest rate so I could get somewhere with my account. They will work with you AND from what I can tell, so long as you are paying them what you agreed upon, it doesn't affect your credit report like not paying them and ignoring them does and it doesn't affect your credit report like working with one of those agencies would.

When using Shorthand, I type a word and then if I have to put a comma after the expanded work the word comes up again.
