Got a doc here laughing as she is dictating re: patient's ailments - with peanut gallery snickering in the background.

How unprofessional can you get? Poor guy has eczematous plaques on his butt. That's funny?
I had that yesterday - Docs

My doc was dictating on a transgender and he kept mixing up whether to say "she or he" and he just started laughing so hard and the whole staff was laughing about it with him.

I have to admit that one time I laughed too... - MTSearching

The poor doctor, a very excellent doctor, tried his absolute hardest not to laugh, but then couldn't help himself. Laughter is contagious and I couldn't help myself!
Anyway, an elderly patient was spraying WD-40 on his knee joints to loosen them up. The doctor said that the patient said this was working, too. hehe I really don't know how the doctor made it through the appointment without laughing.
I had a doc - anon

I laugh all the time at the mechanisms of injury - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I do work comp/PI and my mind envisions the description of the injury. I can't help it - I laugh at myself and people in person who slip, trip or run into things. I have no idea how the doctors stay straight-faced taking the history - no way I could.
She probably just had the giggles. It happens. - sm

Doesn't mean she is laughing at her patients. Doctors are people, too.
It is a way of coping - worked in oncology
[ In Reply To ..]
Hi, I used to work in radiation oncology assisting the tumor registry, transcribing, managing the office, etc., I had a lot of contact with techs, nurses, dosimetrists, physicians, etc., they were all very kind and loving, and professional with these very sick patients, but in the break room their humor could very dark, mocking, black -- this is just a way of detaching, of dealing with tragedy, so they could be professional and give their patients the kind of care and emotional support that they needed. Don't make too much of this. This isn't the way the doctors really feel, it is just a release.
laughing about a pt ailment? - seriously?
[ In Reply To ..]
you have NO idea what she was laughing about - especially with other laughing too. "Sounds" unprofessional, but I doubt, in my experience, that they were laughing about the patient's ailment. How about you be a professional and just type your report and move along.

You can't see him so you don't know what he is laughing about, there may be something funny going on in the nurses station or wherever it is that he is dictating.
Unprofessional? And your post is what, exactly? - Sm

How many patients with eczema on their rears anId female doctors may be embarrassed to think their doctor is laughing at them?
It is not necessary to give names to violate confidentiality for patients or their healthcare providers.
Same goes for that transgender post.
Is it any wonder doctors are attracted to VR?

"Opinions" versus breach of confidentiality - I disagree
[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry, I disagree. Opinions are fine, but breaching confidentiality of patients and clients is not.
Saying you don't like it when doctors laugh at their patients is expressing an opinion.
Going further to give details of the patient's condition is a breach of confidentiality. It is both unnecessary and inappropriate.
In this case, both the doctor and the patient could identify themselves - or think they can - from the information provided.
It is also very easy for a facility or MTSO to identify you. At my facility, it would take about 5 minutes to locate a report on a male patient with that condition, dictated within the last week or so by a female physician, and another minute to listen to the dictation. EHRs make it really easy.
If you can't be a professional for the right reasons, you might do so to avoid losing your job.
Nor facility, state, city. LOL. Some ''breach.'' - nm

This has to be the lamest post I have seen here - in a long time.

There are absolutely no confidentiality issues with the OPs post, and what the heck does VR have to do with anything?? Maybe you meant EMR.
Are you sure the dictator was laughing at the patient?? - sm

Or was the dictator laughing at something or someone around him/her?? There is no way to know unless you are sitting right there with them.

YAWNING AND DICTATING Jul 13, 2010I very seldom vent or complain, but it has just got to me today. This surgeon does such good dictation, EXCEPT when he yawns and continues to dictate. I am sorry, I just had to finally vent after listening to him for 10 years. ...
Gah! Hang Up When You're Done Dictating!!! Oct 01, 2010He does this all the time...turns a 1.5-2 min dictation into a 15 minute dictation. I fast forward through it, but I still have to "listen" to the whole file before I can turn in the dictation.
