In addition to cutting in and out, it can be very difficult to decipher numbers (15 or 50 for example).

I HATE dictators who make extraneous mouth noises whil dictating, including chewing gum, smacking their lips, slurping, sucking their teeth, etc. They are SUCH slobs!

I hate gum chewing anyway, and it's bad enough in my face, but it's worse in the earphones! PIGS!

Cell Phones - Or Whatever.
Jul 17, 2014

This dictator sounds about 70+ and is still using a device that keeps fading out, some kind of cell phone.  Don't they know how bad that is?  Don't they see how many words are missing in their returned reports?  I really think a lot of doctors are ignorant about technology, especially the older ones.   ...

It takes just as long to listen to the file (most of which is unintelligible) and leave huge areas of blanks, so we make next to nothing for the report. Garbage!!!! I know...nothing will ever be done about this. ...

Doctors/dictators
Jul 17, 2012

Just wondering why there are so many doctors/dictators with foreign accents here? Most of mine seem to be from India. My BIL is a doctor and told me years ago that "smart students" aren't going into medicine now because the average salary is "only" about $100,000.00 a year.  He said the top students are going into business (MBA degree, etc)  in order to make more money.  Aren't doctors supposed to go into medicine mainly because they want to help people?  Can' ...

It Is Bad Enough Dealing With Bad Dictators Who Are Doctors BUT (sm)
Feb 13, 2012

it is sickening to have an RN who dictates for MULTIPLE doctors and she has no idea how to pronounce many of the words, cuts her sentences off, flies through the dictation and has no idea how to pronounce medications. She pronounces tachypnea (eash enough word, right?) as tacky P nea, no joke. I am frustrated, angry, fed up and ready to throw my computer out in the yard. This is just sickening!! Just needed to vent and wished I felt better but sadly I do not because I still have MANY more jo ...

Lousy Dictators - Crappy, Hard To Understand Dictators, Both ESL And English-speaking
May 17, 2014

Today I will make less than half of what I normally get because all I've gotten today are crappy, hard to understand dictators, both ESL and English-speaking.  Seems like all I get lately are the hard to understand, mush-mouth dictators.  Guess Nuance doesn't want their MTs making quota.  Sorry.  I just had to vent. ...

C-phones
Nov 20, 2012

I work for a hospital in California on my C-phone.   Over the last week, ever since Comcast demanded that I add a second line because I was using over 5000 minutes of long distance, I have not been able to dial into the hospital.  I can call the hospital number (long distance) but when I get the prompts asking for my ID and password, the system will not take my information from the C-phone.   Yet, when I call the 800 number (for emergencies only), my C-phone worked ...

C-phones Vs. Internet Platforms.
Jun 12, 2010

I think migrating from C-phones to Internet platforms was a mistake. Over the years I have worked on both Lanier and Dictaphone C-phone accounts as well as about eight different Internet platforms.  I'll take a C-phone account any day.  C-phone accounts normally involve using a professional grade word processor like Word or Wordperfect rather than an amateurish proprietary thing that resembles a word processor but often lacks the features of a professional word processor.Addition ...

Looking To Purchase New Head Phones

What Type Of Ear Phones Are MTs Using Nowadays?
Jul 09, 2014

What type of ear phones are MTs using nowadays?  I keep breaking my head set (the wires break inside and I have to hold them just right to use them).   It never occurred to me that the 15,000 (slight exag) ear buds I have in the house (young kids from every electonic ever known to man) has a set.  They seem to work fine.  Is there any reason not to use ear buds versus my old style stethoscope ear phones?  EBAY actually had an ad for Apple ear buds for $2.99 including free shipping!  I cou ...

Call Me An Idiot, But I Have A Question About C-phones, LOL
Oct 23, 2009

When you use a cphone, can the hospital or anyone hear you talking while you are dialed into the hospital?  On two occasions, I said something out loud, like what should have been a silent question (working at home too long, I now talk to myself, ha ha) but on BOTH occasions, my job emailed me the answer to my question within like five minutes of me saying it and I was just wondering.  Thanks. ...

"There Was A Time When Doctors Were Doctors" By James Ong
May 06, 2014

From the KevinPho MD site:   There was a time when doctors were doctors. There was a time when young men and women sacrificed the best years of their youth, learning to treat patients and conquer diseases, not to become typists, paper pushers, data-entry clerks, or to have hospitals, insurance companies, and the federal government dictate to us how to practice medicine.   There was a time when doctors were trusted. There was a time when we were not guilty until proven ot ...
