Arm pain - FLMT

Posted: Sep 01, 2011

So all I had to do was walke up one morning about a week ago and my arm throbbed.  Lots of pain between the wrist and elbow and can feel it any time I move my fingers or use my mouse.  Anyone have any ideas how to deal with this?  I'm about to go nuts with this constant ache/pain.Money mouth

I was having the same problem. I found a video on youtube for tendonitis exercises posted by davidkuckhermann. I started doing those a couple of times a day; especially when I would feel pain, I would stop and do the exercises. The other thing I would do is at the start of my shift I would put icy hot on my arms from the wrist all the way up to the elbow. At night before going to sleep, I have 2 Ace wraps and I would wrap one around my wrist and the other around my elbow and then cover that with some wristers (gloves without fingers) that I knitted. And lastly another thing that works (I learned this one from PT) is get some styrofoam cups, fill them 3/4 of the way full with water and freeze them. Then peel off the top to expose the ice and rub them on your arms for about 20 minutes. This does hurt at first and your arms will turn red. It takes some getting used to, but it does work. I hope those work for you, I know how bad that arm pain is.

Lifting weights worked for me - sm

Lifting a bar bell with 10 pound weights on each end through various lifts, plus squeezing a hand grip device has really helped. Squeezing it about 10 times every other day keeps the pain away. It helped shoulder, neck and arm pain. whatever works.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE - XTRAN

I had similar pain before and was taking regular dose of Advil so I can keep on working. I was advised to have Thai or Chinese deep tissue massage. I have been going every week since they are only $25 dollars per hour here in California. My masseuse uses his knuckles and rolls it on my forearm and upper arm (near humeral head and clavicle junction). As it is done, I feel the knots on my extremity released. He also has my arms flexed to the back and then massages my shoulder blades. It really, really hurts when it is done (especially the right side because of mouse usage) but I feel relieved after the session ends. He also massages the hand especially my right 2nd digit. I have not taken any pain meds for the last 5 years.

I something similar at wrist and elbow. My ortho doctor diagnosed it as tendonitis. So painful I could not even brush my hair with brush. He put me on Meloxicam and a wrist splint and for elbow one time with elbow splint. Mine eventually cleared up. Of course staying away from the keyboard which I could not do, but it did clear up, but ever so often it will flare. Hope this helps. Try ibuprofen too. I also used heating pad when I could. Hope this helps.

Hi, everyone. I'm sure that this is a common problem in the transcription field, but I was hoping someone had some sort of remedy. I've been typing every day for the past couple of weeks about 9 hours a day and one of my fingers (the one I use for the Backspace key) is really starting to hurt every time I push down on it. It's right at the second knuckle on the digit and it's starting to become problematic. Any suggestions from more experienced MTs? Thanks. ...
