When will coding certification tests implement ICD-10 testing? - moogoo

Posted: Jan 06, 2015

Has there been an "official" word on when certification tests (CCA, CCS, CPC) will begin using ICD-10. AHIMA site indicates "once ICD-10 is implemented," which I assume would be October, but I swear I've seen posts that people have taken the tests using ICD-10 recently...?

Thank you!

Nothing is certain yet - sm

Both organizations had firm dates last time, but got burned. I do not believe AHIMA will set their date until after ICD-10 happens, at least after Oct 1, 2015. The AAPC changes exam versions in, roughly, the spring (after they have had a chance to incorporate the Oct and Jan code changes). So, an educated guess would be no earliercthan January of 2016.

If you are seeing talk of exams, you are either seeing straight ICD-10 tests for coders who just learned it, or who are getting credentialed to teach it, or testing to renew a certification they got originally in ICD-9, or something like that. I wouldn't put it past some fly-by-night to be offering some bogus credential in it, too.

Not sure why you are asking. Are you trying to use this to decide on a school?

Certification In Coding Or AA Degree In Coding??
May 11, 2010

Nuance Testing Compared To Other Company Tests, Ie Softscript.
Mar 21, 2012

I have taken so many tests lately with probably dozens of companies.  I am wondering how you feel about Nuance tests and if it is harder or easier than the other companies.  I personally thought Softscript test was kind of hard, compared with Nuance.  Some of the transcription audio files were a little hard with mumbling and fast talking dictators, but really not bad when compared to others.   Hopefully I might be hired with Nuance, so no more testing, I hope.  I ha ...

CPC Certification -- Outpatient Coding Only??
Mar 26, 2013

With every intent of taking some classes in the fall to be able to sit for the CPC exam, I just read a post from another coder that the CPC only qualifies you to code for doctor's offices.  I currently work in a hospital, with the idea to try to transition to a coding position.  Will this just be a big waste for me?  What about the CPC-H?    ...

Coding Credentials/Certification
Apr 30, 2015

Good evening coders :)  I have been reviewing many posts and notice a trend of sorts.  Many posters feel that the AHIMA recognized RHIT credential is not sufficient to gain employment as a coder or that attending a 2 year AAS HIM program is not enough education to the ability to be a sucessful coder.  I was curious about geographic location playing a role in these assumptions?   As an employee in an HIM department, my director possesses the RHIT credential as well as majorit ...

Medical Coding - Wanted To Get CCS Certification?
Sep 16, 2012

I have  been a medical transcriptionist for just over 10 years but I am now looking into coding.  I was hoping for some info on this.  How easy is it to get a job working from home?  Is it hard to get a job straight out of school? What  would be the best school if I wanted to get CCS certification?  I have heard that Andrews School was a good one but would love input from everyone.  Thanks! ...

RHIT DEGREE VS CODING CERTIFICATION
Feb 13, 2013

In researching an HIT degree, I have mostly come across job descriptions that include coding.  I am currently a medical transcriptionist and jobs are now being shipped off shore.  Are coding jobs being shipped off shore as well?  And, if so, what would the benefit be of a degree in Health Information Techology?  What jobs are available other than coding and medical records? ...

Testing For Coding
Mar 16, 2014

I am not associated at all with MM, but been reading all the posts on the testing going on this week for coding.  After the news about bankruptcy for MM last weekend, and then immediately the testing for coding, it has been a very stressful week for all of those working there.  I would like to send a nice pat on the back to all of you. I really do hope the coding works out if that is what you would like and if you did not pass the test, you gave it a try and be proud of yourselves ...

Testing And Applying For Coding Positions
Jan 17, 2013

I became certified in September of last year and am still applying for coding positions. I just completed an 8-page coding assessment and I used the 2012 CPT and ICD-9-CM books I have now.  I am wondering if there is a way to find codes for 2013 to add to my 2012 books without having to buy new books at $$$. ...

Question About Testing For Coding Certifications

Tests Tests And More Tests.....grrrr
Dec 18, 2014

Applying for a new job is a job in and of itself these days. Is anyone else having this ?? All these tests on these job applications. They are sometimes hours long. Some of these test reports are HARD. They are harder than most I do now. I work for MW now. I don't really have time to go through all these tests for hours and hours for FREE. Certification?
Apr 27, 2010

I took online coding program years ago as well as an MT program.  I decided to go into MT but am wanting to start back up with coding again.  Is it worth it to do another coding program or to pursue a certification?  I'm not sure the money I'd need to spend would really justify either.  I've been doing a lot of research and while certification is preferred, it's not always a requirement in job descriptions.  Thanks ...

Transcription Tests
Dec 03, 2011

Why in the heck don't employers give you at least some basic instructions for a transcription test? Some want you to format, others don't. Some want you to edit punctuation, etc., others want you to transcribe verbatim. It's very frustrating because they all seem to want something different, yet most don't bother to give instructions.  It's like they expect us to be mindreaders!    ...

Very Frustrated Right Now!! I Have Taken Some Tests
Sep 03, 2012

for MT jobs that were ridiculous as in you basically need to be a doctor to pass, but I took a pretest just to take the coding course and it was ridiculous, as well.  I sure felt like emailing them and saying nevermind, I would not consider taking a course that you have to be a doctor just to do coding!!  Very frustrating!!!! ...
