When I worked for them back in late 2010/early 2011, they supplied equipment and the cost was a security payment of $100(it may be different now).
needing computer equipment - mijamigramma

I understand that you are needing a computer supplied to you, but those companies are few and far between. Also, I have found that many of those companies allow their pre-installed software and really do not allow you to install anything of a "personal" nature. (Been there done that).
Have you considered maybe getting a computer through layaway? Right now would be the best time to do something like that. Another thing, if you're strapped for cash is possibly something like Aaron's or Rent-A-Center, where for a small amount, you can rent to own a computer. Pricey, but it is an alternative. Another option to consider, is going to a small computer shop and seeing what they may have used, and working out some kind of a payment plan that way.
Two years ago, both my laptop and my desktop were "giving up the ghost," (both around 7 years old), and I went to the local Wal-Mart and purchased an HP laptop for under $300. Just some suggestions for alternatives because I would much rather have something that if I want to be able to either install it or uninstall it, I can, and I am not at the mercy of some company telling me what I can and can't install on a computer.
Another suggestion to buy a computer - sadie

Two places I've bought great computers in the past:
Local pawnshop - They were practically giving away laptops... nearly new Dell laptop for $325 with 6gb RAM, 500gb HD, etc.
newegg.com - They have really great prices and if there is no storefront in the state in which you live, you'll pay no tax. Not to mention, most of their offers ship for free. I got my desktop PC there for under $400 a couple years ago and it's fantastic. I also got my kids' laptops there 3 years ago for $299 each.
A Nuance supplied computer. Couldn't afford my own. Need a company with lower insurance -sm - MTwallet

deductible that also supplies computer equipment. Guess I could have worded my question better! :)
I was kind of assuming what with the text-speak - It was maybe a phone post?
[ In Reply To ..]
Drives me crazy when posts are full of abbreviations and text-speak terms but I guess that's what one has to do when posting from their phone.
Who agrees with me? Can't wait to get the hell out of there, very soon I hope! They have their job postings on MTjobs.com because it's a revolving door there, not because of new accounts. ...
computer for years. I had a Windows 7 which quit running and they sent me an old XP from Cornerstone (I work on Fluency) that is about useless. My question is, did everybody who had company-owned get upgraded to Windows 7 or are some of you still on XP? I wanted to know before I call and gripe to "Phil" TIA ...
The reason I ask this question is for my internet I have a USB modem. Do the computers supplied by Q have any extra USB ports so I can plug my Verizon in there?
Thanks! ...
- You work full-time, often more than 40 hours a week, and you still qualify for food stamps, special rates on your utilities, and partial unemployment because actual dictation you get each day is so sparse.
- Although you're one of the "lucky" ones who has some form of insurance, you still don't visit a doctor because you can't come up with the copayments.
- It's been years since you actually went inside a retail store and bought a new item. You can no longer even im ...
On paper, some of the changes sounded good, like the auto numbering. But in practice it seems like all this new version does is cause DQS to run much more slowing, constantly locking up, auto-saving (and slowing down) too often, amongst other irritating little things. Why can't their upgrades ever actually be an UPgrade. I think they need to start calling them DQS downgrades.
And what I hate the most is in the ADT screen where you used to be able to just hit enter, ...
I guess we are all going to get mentored at one point or another as I just received an email to set me up for it. I make over the lph and get all my required hours in each week so I don't see why I am being mentored at all. Like I said, I guess we have no choice and will all be mentored sooner or later. This sucks! ...
Let all the part-timers work over the weekend because there is a lot of work, so they dont get paid overtime and then on Monday morning the full-timers have no work. The bean counters got it down to a science! ...

The global MTSOs have ruined everything good about becoming an MT.
1. Flexible hours (our time, not theirs)- gone
2. Good pay/livable wage - gone
3. Unlimited income (lots of work, anytime) - gone
4. Self esteem - gone
Remember the good ol' days?
These metrics and the micro managing are for the birds. Give me a break.

The Eye for Quality poll for today...you choose the person who has the best "eye for quality" and they get an ADDITIONAL $100 gift card. um no thank you they can all kiss my butt. Why not give the rest of us a shot at a gift card instead of someone else who has been recognized monetarily???????????? i'm not voting and neither should you. ...
Has anyone here had to get Worker's Comp while working for MQ? If so, what is the process?
I have looked on MQ Central and can't find anything about it.
I'm in severe pain and was told it was a direct result of my job.

Anyone know how to write an appeal letter? I was denied by the judge, even though my doctor said I have wrist and hand tendinitis due to typing for 16 years. Wow, i'm devastated, not only am I hurting, but financially a wreck. Anyway, I am writing an appeal to the board and have no money to visit a lawyer, wondering what goes in an appeal letter. Any help greatly appreciated. TIA ...
There apparently will be a call next week going over the new compensation plan. Hopefully there really is one and it explains a lot better than the email. Doubt it will give actual numbers but I will post anything I find out on here in case noone else has a call. hope they can explain better. we'll see. ...
I always considered myself an average transcriptionist. On my platform I average about 150 LPH and very rarely do I go over 10% to QC and QA is usually in the 99.5% range. Based on my last weeks information and using their charts, I will be getting about 2+ cpl more than I have in the past year on my straight production. I guess I may be way luckier than the people posting here. Maybe I am a better transcriptionist than I thought I was? I figure if I only have 1 cra ...
Beware anyone thinking about working for Ascend! They are extremely unorganized and chaotic. I don't know why they make you submit invoices - which are very time consuming to prepare - when they will just pay you something different or not at all. They shorted my first paycheck by 1/3. When I was finally able to get in touch with someone, they did send me the adjustment.... but I have not received my last paycheck at all!!! I have tried to contact them several ...
just leave bad enough alone? And I thought we were supposed to be able to make timecard corrections ourselves. I see no place to do that. I don't even see a place like before where we would ask the CCM to do it. So now I have a stamp on there I accidently made and can't remove it. Thanks again MQ. ...
I have a great job working at home editing. I love it. I've been in transcription 12 years but lately have the worst concentration ever. I find myself getting distracted by the Internet..Facebook, Google, Yahoo, CNN. You name it I'm there in between reports. I know I'm not giving it 100% at work and wish I could concentrate!! FWIW I can't sleep either. Total insomniac. I'm not very productive because of this distractibility and it concerns me a lot. Does anyone have tips ...
Ask anyone what's happened to earnings in this field over the last 10 years. If you have a penchant for the macabre, try the last 20 years. I won't bother with the details because you already know them.
Well, you put up with it, didn't you? While the population of ESL dictators exploded and VR came on the scene, while the sheer number of medical devices, instruments, procedures, tests and other terminology we deal with doubled and then tripled, while benefits were hac ...
Back in the 80s and 90s, we had to put up with fuzzy tapes, but I would have thought that by 2014 this would no longer be an issure. I'm so tired of struggling to hear voices that sound like they're speaking through a long tube or under water. ...
So, remember the days way back when we got paid well, were appreciated and could be happy to be MT? Wow I miss that! I hate MTSOs. They all act like we only have work to worry about, they trash you, but never say any good you do. One trainer or QC person grades your work as 99%-100%, another picks apart every comma, period, etc. calling things "critical errors", that honestly aren't! You ask to advance in your position, but no "you're not ready" (after 15 years and previously being a ...
Thanks in advance. Has any California Medquist MT ever had carpal tunnel diagnosis and had the insurance company ask you to give them more information about the "nature" of your injury, as in they want an explanation if I think it is work injury, car accident, or other? I hate to lie, but it is pretty obvious I have it from typing. Also, if I said it is from work, they refuse to pay the neurologist who gave diagnosis. I pay into Worker's Comp in California, it is ded ...
So I am about to take on a second IC job in a few days. Was just about to sign the contract agreement and as I was reading through it, I noticed that while it didn't expressly say I HAD to purchase workman's comp insurance, it did say that I was responsible for workmans comp.
Is this something anyone is familiar with? Is it really necessary for me to purchase on my own if this is a part-time IC job and the company has a secure server with upload/download capabil ...
I was just looking through the Human Resources page and can't find anything about WC. Just curious if anyone has filed for it and any clue on who to talk to about it? TIA ...
I have carpal tunnel. Is it possible to file a WC case at MModal for this? Who would I speak to in Human Resources. Spent a bit of time looking at MQCentral (or whatever it's called) and got dizzy, but couldn't find an answer. TIA ...
Since it is obvious the new comp plan isn't done maybe we could give them help and point in the right direction. I would love to hear what everyone thinks, good or bad.
Would you rather get paid hourly or by the line?
How about a shift differential for the weekend?
What about extra money per report for those accounts with multiple carbon copies and tedious demographic screens?
Some companies consider FT and offer benefits at 32 hours, would that be something anyone would be ...
