Why so much pressure about references? - Cee

Posted: Jan 18, 2015

I'm baffled...I applied with Patient First through Careerbuilder.  I had recruiters pursuing me for months, I get back to them and they tell me I'll be coming to Virginia for testing that I did awesome on the first test, yada yada yada...then I get a call from HR because I didn't fill out the profile on the Patient First website, and now they're all gung ho about references!  I worked at the same MTSO for over 6 years - there's a lot of turnover in MTSO's, as everybody knows, and it's not always easy to get information on people you used to work with if you haven't worked with them for a while.  Now, I'm in danger of losing this opportunity because I've had trouble tracking down three people who are willing to vouch for my "work ethic"!!  What the......

Anyone have any suggestions?

I was in the same boat as you.... - I was worried about those 3 references...

I just gave my last 2 supervisors and a friend. I know they wanted professional refs but I put her down anyway. They never called her. When I tried to contact one of the supervisors I got no reply because she no longer worked there. I left her name as a ref anyway. The other one said to just give them her name and HR's number. They never called her directly, either. They may have called HR just to find out if I actually worked there. Sometimes that's all they care about. I'm not saying they won't call your refs, but there is a chance they won't. If you can just come up with names and the number to HR, that might be all they need.

I'm in awe of you. - L

I have lots of references as I've worked in-house for the past year and a half, but I apparently can't pass that test!!

Were you guys given a specific test by - that company?

When I heard about how wonderful that co is, etc., I took it upon myself to enter their website and applied. I didn't see a way to take a test, at first. But then, a couple of days later, went back on when I heard about people testing and found a way to do so. I barely remember the test, since I've done so many lately (all fruitless endeavors thus far)-- but if I recall, their test was comprised of four dictations--might have been ESL; don't remember if was 'basic 4' or a combo of some sort, but I do remember thinking I left 2 or 3 blanks, not too bad but I would bet someone else could do better...if I'm '98%,' I'm sure there's a '99%' out there, right? Never heard from them; it's been about a week, and I don't expect to.

But what I'd like to ask you all is whether you had direct communication with a recruiter before taking the test. Were you "invited" by someone, as opposed to just doing what I did, going 'rogue' on your own?

Do they communicate with you if you 'failed?'

Thanks!

I found out about PF here on MT Stars and went onto their website and filled out the application and took the test just like you did.

I did not hear back from then for about 4-5 weeks and I thought I didn't pass so they weren't interested.

Then just one day out of the blue I got a call from the team lead and we talked for quite a while and then offered me the job. I was down in Virginia about 2 weeks later.

I then found out before they called me they checked my references first and then they called me.
Oh, thanks. nm - God knows what I put down for references

I tested when I applied. - L

They didn't tell me I failed, but I assume I didn't pass or that they had better candidates since I haven't heard from them.

Specific test - Cee

Well, my situation was a little different. I did the online test and applied when I was unemployed in August, fully not expecting anything to come from it, but they need that proof that you're looking 3 times a week. About a month later, I heard from a recruiter from PF, and I had already accepted a job with another company at that time. Well, I heard from someone from PF every month since then, so I decided to actually get back to them because they sounded like a good company. I'm not sure what my score was, the recruiter just told me that I did "very well."

So, I'm not sure if they communicate with you if you passed or failed; other people on this board have said that they received a letter in the mail, some not.

Time to ask them for a few references on themselves.

That will surely - get you the job. nm

About References. MT Over 25 Years And Have None
Mar 25, 2015

I initially went to work as an MT in-house for a practice in 1990.  They outsourced to a company that I went to work for in 2000.  The medical practice was bought by a hospital, so switched their work to another facility.  I continued to work at home for CyMed.  They were sold to SPi, who eventually closed shop.  I left in 2009 to work for Meridian Health Solutions.  In 2013, Meridian sold out to MM, and here I sit at MM, who states they ONLY verify employment, and ...

Getting References Is Hard When All The MTSOs I Worked For Are Closed
Mar 25, 2013

So I'm applying for a substitute position with my local school system and they want two professional references.  I don't want to ask the current MTSO I work for, nor the physicians in my private accounts.  I've worked for this MTSO for 5 years, a pretty significant length of time considering.  So I'm looking at my resume over the last 10 years and there are five companies closed/bought out. Pressure
Jul 31, 2013

You know this is some food for thought.  You know if there are any mistakes on any of these medical records being VR edited or transcribed and it went to court and you know how they say the transcriber/editor would be liable too, well think about this -- the tremendous amount of pressure that these companies put us under including the severe lack of pay, putting us on an almost impossible production scale among pressures from QA and so forth, a transcriber's defense is so easy and is a ...
