Why all the thumbs down for a company's job-wanted ad? - Anon

Posted: Jan 24, 2014

I work there and it's a great company!  They also have 4 dislikes and I'm clueless as to why.  Is it because it's for 2nd and 3rd shift jobs?  This is a place that has straight typing only AND offers benefits AND always has steady work!  Isn't that what everyone wants?  So the hours suck, but work is work--especially good work like this.  So, what's up?!

What company? - nn

I guess they go by the fancy initials of AHD now. I personally don't like to see those initials because it reminds me of AHDI, which it is not at all anything related to those bastids ;-)

I work there as well - AHDMT

Best at-home gig ever. Even better than a couple of in-house positions I've had in the past.

I don't get all the dislikes except for that handful of clowns that seem to have way too much time on their hands and go around clicking dislike on everything that's posted, on just about every single post. Perhaps it's posters who tried to get on with them in the past and weren't successful. Also, it's possible the dislikes are from people who worked there and were terminated because they couldn't cut the proverbial mustard. As great a company as it is to work for, they do have high expectations and expect us to work when scheduled and produce quality work.

I've been with AHD for nearly 3 years and I've no complaints whatsoever. Great place, great people, ample work, and benefits to boot.
I really cannot believe people sit around disliking for no reason. - There is something in the ad they do not like or k

Check for yourself - Even on the gab board
[ In Reply To ..]
Even the most benign of posts that have nothing to do with MT will have at least 1 "dislike" on them.

I find it hard to believe, too, but it does happen. There are a lot of people apparently frequenting this board who have way too much free time on their hands.

And there is nothing that is a lie on their ad. I work for them and can validate everything contained therein.
AHD - Wishful Thinking

I must agree with you. I don't know why all the dislikes. I don't work there, but I would certainly love to work there. I'm a bit concerned about something. Yesterday, I filled out an informational form on their old website not knowing about their new name. This would have been the website before their merger with the other company in 2013, and I'm not sure if they will receive it or not. (I hope they do). The more I read about this company, the more I like them, and would certainly love to hear back and learn more about them. I just visited both websites (under the old company name and the new name). Sounds like the perfect/ideal company in my opinion.
AHD - Wishful Thing Too

Also, it sounds like the 2 ladies who are in charge have got it all together and know what they're doing which speaks volumes about a company.

they are a joint venture between what used to be Affiliated Transcription Service, a division of Affiliated Healthcare which is a division of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, and Medical Transcribers II of Bangor, Maine. This was accomplished in June of 2013.

Several are advertising for evenings, so not sure which company you represent, but I, for one, would love to hear good things you have to say about your company.

The reason for "dislike" is usually simple. There is a small group on this forum who "dislike" everything, whether or not there is a reason to do so.

I looked at a few of the ads for evening or night shifts and one thing I would "dislike" an MTSO continuing to not admit that you cannot effectively edit a report in only half the time it takes to transcribe it. I saw this in an ad requiring 125 CPH for transcription and exactly twice that for editing.

It was hard enough for most of us to never receive a raises for decades due to newbie undercutters, but to be making one third the line rate I charged 30 years ago is definitely a "Dislike".

Proofing ASR takes much longer than proofing transcription because they are different types of errors. Also with editing you have to reformat every single document, something you can do right the first time transcribing. When we edit, our hands are almost as active as they are when transcribing, but there is no staying on the home keys to build speed. The right hand has to bounce back and forth constantly and awkwardly between the arrow keys and the home keys, costing more time to feel for the home key indicator 'J' because editing keyboards, or any equipment that assists the MT/ME, are not made. They only create what they think they can sell to the people with the money, not the MTs. Same with platforms that are also not made for transcriptionists.

So, I'm sorry this is long and may not apply specifically to your company, but I do hope it may give a little insight into what we are struggling with these days, and the aforementioned is just a tiny sliver of it.

Thanks for reading.

Wow, that is the best explanation I have ever heard... - SR is not = half the time of ST.

[ In Reply To ..]
Thank you! That is really a very well put explanation. Best that I have ever heard, and it makes total sense.

You know, I was wondering if I was losing my manual dexterity skills since doing SR, but you are so spot on about using the arrow keys, etc., needed for editing SR that take your fingers away from the home keys. And also being able to format as you went along before was a completely fluid process, not possible now.

Thanks!

1. For a job starting in MARCH .. lol. Right .. the "lucky" MT has nothing to do for 2 months but sit around, twiddle his/her thumbs 'till then. Of course, the MT is independently wealthy & all of his/her bills will be paid those 2 months.

2. Requires 125 wph typing, 250 for VR. Of course, we can all do VR in half the time (lol) ... right?

Why dislike the original post?? (sm) - Rose

I will never understand a lot of people, and I'm A-OK with that! :) - Anon

This is a great company that hardly anyone ever mentions on here because they don't want them getting flooded with calls! It's one of those hidden jewels that advertises once every 5 years or so, and I know they are swamped with work because they offered OT and they NEVER do that...so, yay for us! :-D

I'm.really happy for you. My work just changed to VR and I hate it. I miss typing my op notes - Oldie

I have read on this board before that people with vast experience test and are told that they didn't pass the test, but can't get their test results to see what they did wrong. That has happened to me several times. In particular a few weeks ago, it was a difficult test - and I have 30 years experience in acute care, so just to be safe, I looked up most of the questions on the internet - there were a few that I didn't have to - but there were vague abbreviations and drugs that I had never heard of - that sort of thing. I received an e-mail that I hadn't passed the test. I asked for the results, but didn't hear back. I suspect it was my resume where they can figure out that I am near retirement age....but they can't turn us down based on that, so they use the test excuse. This was a site where you download your resume and then go immediately into the test. I would give that company a thumbs down too.

Same test. Answer was because you can take it again - in 6 months!

[ In Reply To ..]
MTSO's have a book of excuses, unfortunately if you don't want anything negative, then find out for yourself. All likes checked and then you will find out how you are being used and then feel even worse because you will think it is YOU. The services check this board. They want to make you think it is you not them.

AHD does use MTTest - Must be confused

[ In Reply To ..]
They have their own tests, no internet testing, it's emailed to you.

You must have this company confused with another company you tested for.

ADH Testing - Curious

[ In Reply To ..]
Is this a lengthy test? Would you consider it difficult? How long before you know how you scored?
O Me Bad ..... - Curious
[ In Reply To ..]
I mean AHD testing....sorry, typing tooooo fast.

Prime MT years - Huh?

[ In Reply To ..]
You have 30 years experience and you think you are nearing retirement age? Are you kidding me? You are considered "seasoned" not old. You are at your MT peak. I'm sure you can come up with a better excuse than that.

I don't think that's what the poster meant ... SM - Kitty

[ In Reply To ..]
Not that SHE/HE specifically is feeling near retirement age ... that the MTSOs are discriminating against those nearing retirement age. Not being able to legally use that as an excuse, they will say it was the test scores that failed. Thus, since they are once again lying through their teeth... they won't give you your own scores, even though you may have scored 100%.

They will use the test score BS as a reason not to hire you. In my own particular case, I found out later it was probably my legal and/or prior government job background that hindered my being hired ... MTSOs don't want anyone too knowledgeable in law or govt.
She did not say THIS service's test...testing in general. - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
The poster was not meaning this particular company. I also took a test for a company and did not hear anything. They advertised again. I did not send a resume because I had previously. I got a call after the second testing and application, but did not send my resume again, as I thought maybe it was because I failed the first one, yet I too knew that the answers were correct, but if not, then which ones were wrong...disc/disk? I got a call from a male and he said after this second attempt that he wanted me to email my resume so we could talk. I said I already did the first time but thought maybe I did not pass the test!He said, "oh, no we don't go by the test, it is just to give us an overall view." He said he'd look for it as it probably got caught in all the other paperwork. I never got a call back. I have worked at 4 hospitals and private physicians for over 30 years also. In the hospital 'take overs' the services that came in did not want the employees either.

You don't understand a warning? - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
There is much more hidden negatives that these companies let you find out after the fact. Plus, even you may be the owner or a fav at the top of the totem pole, or even HR, and this is your job to drum up business and check for any negativity against your company. Dislikes do not have to go into detail, nor do you have to agree...just a heads-up and sometimes we learn the hard way...as so many of us have.

Can you please elaborate - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
on heads-up, negative, so I don't waste my time, any info you care to share on negative experience greatly appreciated, even general terms so we have an idea. Thanks!
