Unemployment while working part time IC - Wanderer

I have a question concerning unemployment and I hope I can word this correctly. I have 2 jobs. One is IC with a very small volume - about 1500 lines per 2-week pay period. I also have a full-time job as an employee. I will be laid off my full-time job this Friday due to loss of work. I am considering filing for unemployment, but I wonder how my IC job will affect my unemployment, if at all? I also have an option of receiving more work from the IC job, but still would not be making as much as I did as a full-time employee. Do they even consider IC work when figuring unemployment benefits? I thought I would work at my company until I retired, as I am 60 years and 7 months old, but alas, it was not to be. Any advice?

You can still get UE based on your employee job. You have to report your IC income weekly as it will detract from your weekly UE benefit. Your weekly UE benefit is calculated based only on your employee status job, yet you still have to report IC (doesn't seem right :-) ) ..

Yes, I would also really like to know if you got laid off from IMEDX due to lack of work...maybe I'm next?

After I got laid-off, I called the unemployment (UE) office in the state where I live (Illinois). I asked the man how much I could make without it affecting my unemployment payment. The man told me that I can make one-half of what I am making in UE without it cutting into my UE payment.

In other words, if you are making $300 a week in UE, you can make up to $150 a week in another job without it affecting your UE. Anything over that $150 would be deducted dollar-for-dollar. Remember that this is in the state of Illinois. If you don't live here, you can call the UE office in your state.

Also apply for Food Stamps. The 200 a month you might get is money you can pay other bills with if you don't have to buy food.

After all of my backup accounts disappeared at iMedX and my primary account stopped having any full-time work (too many people working the same solitary account now)... I filed for partial UE and was approved within a few weeks.

Every week, I report the income I made the week prior, and the UE picks up the slack. They base it on your total income over the last 4 quarters of your employment, not necessarily the current company you work for, just your overall income during that time.

I agree with another poster about filing for food stamps too. Anything preemptive you can do to avoid being without a job and without any kind of income when everything goes belly up... more power to you. I can't go even one week without a paycheck or I will fall horribly into debt, so I set about filing for these things the minute my work started disappearing.

It is depressing reading about the poor treatment by some companies. Does anyone care to share that if you are hired at optiscript part time will they let you change to full time easily? I'm getting frustrated about finding a part-time job. I've done so many interviews, I'm blue in the face. They all want to start at such a low cpl that I just can't do it.
