TTS - friendly, polite, yet professional - GoldenOldie

Posted: Mar 10, 2012

Earlier this week TTS contacted me asking if I was interested in working with them (I had applied back in 2010 and due to various working conditions offered, I had declined the position). However, this offer, I must say, was most attractive. I read the post below; however, after talking with the recruiter I found: a.  She was most knowledgeable and helpful with my questions, friendly, polite, yet professional. b.  Pay offered was close to 10 cpl (straight text) and close to 5 cpl (VR).  This is quite a bit better than the insulting line rates I have been seeing. c.  Offered an account that actually has all straight text - at least for the next 7-8 months. d.  Permitted me to select a 12 hour block; within this block I work 8 hours. This seems quite reasonable and flexible to me. e.  The welcome packet and account SPECs were sent minutes after the end of our conversation. I know I wasn't dreaming, but then I see the posts all over the board (mostly negative). Ok - I'm confused. Has this experience happened with others?  Was this a facade??

I work for TTS, has done so for the past few years and love it there. I have told many people on this site to ignore those who bash companies and make your own decisions. What's good for one person may not be the best fit for another.

The points you mentioned above are standard for them and are comparable with other places.

I have never had a problem with the staff or management. There does seem to be a discrepancy among the QA team, but other than that, I would highly recommend them.

I have NEVER known anyone to make that at TTS-they must be desperate! - nm

I know of many people there that make that.

Actually those were my rates - jj

I worked there last summer at exactly those rates and would still be there but had personal/environmental issues that prevented me from following my selected schedule and asked them to terminate my contract. I am hoping to rejoin them next month and finish my entire career with them. Excellent work environment from my experience.

Are these rates for IC or employee?

I would find out what percentage of ESL there is on the account. That makes a huge difference and could be why the pay is better.

This is an IC position, which is what I prefer, as I don't care about MTSO benefits. Further, what does it matter if there are ESLs on the account? Most all acute care accounts are laden with ESL (these providers accept less $ than US providers, and that's what hospitals are looking to do - save $). Also, I have worked with many other MTSOs (both as QA and MT) who pay these days much less and there are still a ton of ESLs. The line rate that most MTSOs are offering (not all, but most) are just insulting. They, I believe, forget about quality and just look to "bang out" as many lines possible for the $. Then wonder why the client complains and they lose accounts.
As far as keeping a low profile with TTS, as I read on a past post, I am curious about this statement. Why would I want to be "high maintenance" with any company. If I work my schedule and do as I am hired to do, i.e., ensuring I meet industry and client standards, I doubt there will be a problem. As far as inconsistencies between different QA personnel, this is true at all MTSOs. I have no problem at all challenging my work with anyone if I feeling I am 100% correct. This being done, of course, in a polite and tactful manner, and not one of finger-pointing or in a stance of defense. One must keep all documentation received and use it when necessary.
Anyway, I am pleased that some of you spoke up in a positive fashion with regard TTS. I do know what it is like to be lured into a position, promised one thing and given something else, cheated on lines, etc. In a QA capacity, I have been accused of being rude (and other things) when all I did was provide a compare copy and the MTSO backs the MT because they are the ones who are actually lining the pockets of the admin personnel. I could give a list of MTSOs that fall into this negative bracket, but ih this day and age of law suits, I would prefer not to disclose this information; who has time for a law suit?
Bottom line, I have accepted the position. If this turns out to be a wrong decision, I will be the first to apologize to those that advised against working with them.
I would like to mention 1 more thing. The ONLY way to get these MTSOs to stop offering such insulting rates of pay, is just not work with them, don't apply for the positions. If they can't get the MTs or QA, they will figure it out eventually and will up the rate of pay. However, people complain on the board about these disgusting rates, and turn around and apply. I realize that we all must work, but as long as these low-paying MTSOs continue to fill their positions at these rates, it will just keep going down further and further. Obviously they don't care about quality, experience, reasonable thinking, attention to detail, common sense - they just want the large EOM line rates.
All that being said... - does anyone see any danger

in TTS being swallowed up any time soon by the 2 behemoths? For some reason I see them, Softscript and Keystrokes being in the line of fire.
I have had that feeling, too. SM - Anon

that they are positioning themselves for an eventual sellout to Nuance. They have been advertising for and hiring MTs like crazy (a sign), riding everybody's b**t for high quality scores (a sign), and they use the same platforms (a sign). I wouldn't be surprised if it happens in the next year. The MTs might even be better off as Nuance employees.
Nuance already owns TTS-it just isn't legal. - sm

TTS gets ALL their work from Nuance-no accounts of their own contractually. Nuance gives TTS accounts to convert to VR and then once good to go-they take them and give them another one. They use Dictaphone and Escrition, both owned by Nuance. All Nuance has to do is pull the platforms or work and TTS is done.

As far as being left alone to do your work-good luck with that. They monitor your every move, including when your fingers are on the keyboard and when they are not. Totally micromanaged to the max!
they already own TTS? - Very Curious

Just curious how you know that all TTS accounts come from Nuance.
I can believe that...SM - Anon

from my experience there. I've been involved in training 2 different accounts for SR. QA has been exacting to the max, and I have even gotten QC feedback from Nuance. I thought that was odd but now I see the light. I've got to say though that the SR is well trained once we get finished with it. I do like both platforms, and I like editing (aside from the fact that I'm not making as much money as I did inhouse).
Don't expect the perks of IC with this company! - nm

Yes TTS pays more for difficult accounts. - Just like other companies

[ In Reply To ..]
My friend works on a hard account and she makes 0.25 per line more than I do. Of course, in the long run per hour, I get paid more than she does because I produce more on an easier account.

Many companies, even the nationals, pay more for difficult accounts. Otherwise they can't keep them staffed. Thing is you are kidding yourself if you think the extra pay makes up for the difficult dictators.

Golden Oldie - Question please - Curious

May I ask what platform the account is on, if it's a standard one or proprietary?

Thanks!!!

Yes, same thing happened to me and then I never heard from the recuiter again and never got started training the following week like she said. That is why I the whole company is mismanaged. Good luck to you. I kept e-mailing and calling to no avail. Hope this does not happen to you.

Fast Transcription Is A Polite Company

I put in an application for a job here a day after it was posted, which was too late because of the good pay they were offering.  I just got an email back saying they had overwhelming response from their ad. Another MT on here said she took the test.   I know other companies do the same, but there are some that do not bother contacting you at all or allow you to take a test, knowing they already have enough applicants. ...

I had a phone interview with them, and they don't sound like they're flexible AT ALL.  She even told me that they're not.  She made it sound like I have to be dying to miss any work.  They say they have excellent insurance, but their family insurance is around $700 a month!!  Plus she told me that I would have to type 7000 lines per week, but I saw on several posts on here that they only had to type 5500 lines.  So, I'm wondering if this company ...
