Okay, need opinions please. Is it normal for a company (sm) - ConfusedMT

to tell you that they will not pay you until the doctors/accounts pay them? Would you take the job even if you had been reassured that this is never the case?
TIA

Do not touch that job with a 10-foot pole. If YOU hired someone, do you think it would be reasonable to tell them they don't get paid if you don't.

Don't type another line until they pay you and look for another job. It sounds like they are on shaky ground!

there were many times I didn't get paid until a week or sometimes even more after I was supposed to because she didn't get paid by the doctor. I remember many a times, I had to get cash advances from my credit card just to pay the bills, and then when she paid me, I would pay my credit card off. It was very inconvenient, but also it was a company that did not have enough overhead to cover my paycheck, which is not a solid company at all. It is just not dependable and we work to get paid on our paydays...it is their problem if their client doesn't pay them, not ours. That's how I see it. Not a good situation at all. I would not recommend it after had that myself.

I think you made the best point. "It was a company that did not have enough overhead to cover my paycheck, which is not a solid company at all."

Exactly! I have worked for small companies that paid, regardless of what was going on with their reimbursement situation. I would never work for a company that said they would not pay you until they get paid. That's crazy!!
So if they don't get paid for 90 days (not unheard of) then the subcontractor has to wait? No way.
I had a job like that - and absolutely loved it

This is not normal for the big national companies, but I do see it with some of the smaller companies.
I worked for a company, which was really a one-woman show, the owner was also a working MT, and she wouldn't pay me until after she got paid by the client. I felt very comfortable with the arrangement though because she was an extremely honest person and I always got paid. Usually got paid within 2 weeks, but I remember a couple of times that I had to wait 3 or even 4 weeks for my check.
And that was the BEST job I ever had. I was paid a very good rate and I loved the hospital work that I was doing for her. Unfortunately, she ended up with health problems and finally sold her company to one of the big nationals.
So if this is a small or local company, being paid like that wouldn't really make me raise my eyebrows. If it's a large or national company though, then no way would I accept something like that.
Please DO raise your eyebrows - Old Pro

When MTs accept such things as having to wait 3-4 weeks for payment (while having to cash advance on their credit cards), it merely enables the MTSO to not take responsibility for running her business like a business. I had a line of credit at my business bank that I could tap for unexpected expenses. Virtually all legitimate businesses (large or small) have such a line of credit if they are doing business properly. My best advice would be to not enable such bad behavior. Remember, you deserve the kind of treatment you will accept!
Thanks so much for the replies all. The clinic that I have worked with (sm) - ConfusedMT

for over 23 years has just outsourced the MT department so I am job hunting. I ran across a company that looked and sounded great on paper until she told me this bit about having to possibly wait on pay. So again, thank you again so much for your opinions, running away from this company quickly.
At least they told you that was the case... - sm

so you can make an informed decision (even as a temporary job until you find something that suits you better).
I'd rather be able to plan for the possibility of delayed payment than have to be chasing an outstanding paycheck and THEN be told, "Oh, well we haven't been paid yet so you have to wait as well." That would get my back up and raise my suspicions BIG time.

"Normal" has nothing to do with it. "Typical" is what you are looking for and it is ATYPICAL for such a situation to occur. No MT should agree to such an arrangement. No MT should transcribe a singly line until he or she has a signed contract or memorandum of understanding in place spelling out rate of payment, terms of payment, etc. Mine has a clause in it that states that payment due from the MTSO to me is not dependent upon when the MTSO's client pays her or him. My agreement is strictly with the MTSO who hires me. When he or she gets paid is his or her problem, not mine. Basic business 101. Good luck!

WHOOOA! That should be "not transcribe a SINGLE line," not "singly" line. :(- I haven't have my coffee yet--can you tell?

PE on neurologist consult. Pt with spinal sarcoma. Doc is a pretty clear dictator. Not sure if "tesseril" is actually "tests for all" or what. How about "effort". Is this customary in a neuro consult?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I am working at a company who observes certain holidays and we are required to work 4 of them, but this is the first company I have ever worked where I have to use my PTO on the holiday I am supposed to be off. Does your company do the same?
Thank you! :) ...
I am a fairly new MT at MQ. With all the checking ADT and getting different facilities/doctors I am very slow. What should my speed be at as a new MT??? ...
When a dictator asked that you insert a normal ROS or PE, then dictates "for the respiratory put ..." I often get dictation that contradicts what remains in the normal template but the dictators do not instruct to delete the rest of that heading. Sometimes this is an easy fix, for example if you know they complain of SOB, then you delete that portion. Other times we can't possibly know how the "normal" differs for this particular patient. It's time consuming to keep flagging these for ...
Mycamine 100 mg in 100 normal saline infused over 60 minutes daily.
My question is about the 100 normal saline. I searched for this in quotes, and did not come up with anything. Is 100 a percent? Or do I just type it as I did above? ...
I'n new to working from home, only 3 months now, but have been a transcriptionist for 6 years. The company I work for has me on 5 different hospital accounts. They are all rehabilitation hospitals (acute) and do H&P, discharge summaries, daily notes, consultations, etc and I am constantly out of work. Some days I have no work at all. Pay is 0.0775 line except headers/footers. Is this normal? Each hospital is at least a 50 bed hospital. I f ...
At my company (a smaller one) there are a lot of mistakes in the normal dictations that the doctors request. The way they are created in the first place is the transcriptionist types up the report and sends it to QA saying the doctor would like to use this in the future for his normal, but I don't think they get reviewed by QA. I think they just get created the way they are. So if it was a right eye, the word right is there all the way through it. If a word is misspe ...
I am thinking for right now I don't really care if I "fudge" on my shift a little here and there. First they offer OT, then no work. I almost think it might be better when we are under different management. HOWEVER, I still have not seen anything on the acquisition other than what we were originally told. How odd!!
Makes you afraid to go with any of the smaller companies. Who knows who will be eaten up next.

How much detail of the normal lab values do I need to know? Do I have to memorize all the normal values at the least? I find that impossible.
Do I have to know what test will diagnose for which disease or particular study? For example, do I have to know that white blood cells are involved in the CBC test or that PSA stands for prostrate specific antigen and is a cancer marker?

We are inundated with sloppy dictators, perhaps the ones that can't use VR. We know how much they hate to dictate repetitive ROSs and PEs, thus they love using templates, or paragraphs from previous reports. Does anyone else note a lot of doctor errors in using these methods, i.e. racing through and not changing all the template details? I have found that NPs and female doctors are able to multitask and get this right, but the only males that can do this are the older ones who have a lot o ...
Okay pulled in PE and major ARGH!!! I was told that tenses need to match. However, in this particular case whoever entered it was jumping back between past and present. Another time consuming thing I get to do. Interesting how that works.

And I got more of some of the normal accounts..And guess what? Line count almost doubled. So how is this fair to us that are stuck on thes accounts on a day in and day out basis? ...
in each report? My current accounts allow up to 3. I heard there are ZERO blank accounts. If I ever get transferred to one of those that will be the last straw for me...I'll leave because if I couldn't leave blanks (for those inevitable horrible ESLs) I'd ALWAYS have over 10% QC, and I refuse to work for 7 cpl.
For those on zero blank accounts? That is not fair. Are you at least allowed higher than 10% pended? Do these accounts have clear ...
