QA pay at 4 cpl?? Is that normal? - anon

Posted: Dec 16, 2010

TIA

Better than some. You get credit for all lines in the report - even if you just fill in blanks.

At least usually that is how it works.

I think 4 CPL is the going rate and I also agree with the other poster that you get credit for all lines.

Are you kidding me? - lowlymt

The QA person gets paid for all the lines I have struggled to get right?
Our QA is hourly - me

Who you be? I am glad you are paid hourly, that makes more sense than paying you and me both for the same lines, especially when I have worked to figure them out first and probably end up getting paid less on the whole, because QA supposedly has more expertise than MT. Don't get me wrong, I do think QA should get decent pay of course, but so should the MTs, no??
Even at 4 cpl, most QAs still make less than MTs. - sm

Full reviews, grading, and feedback for newbies and Indians is extremely time-consuming, so when QAs get a report by a good MT that just needs a few blanks filled, it by no means makes up for the rest.
Something is wrong here - Lowly MT

I am not trying to say QA should not get good wage, but I make 4.5 cpl to edit reports through VR. I hate it. I can't make much money. But I am pretty confident that a report typed by an actual person is a heck of a lot better than the garbage spit out by the VR program. Even a full review would be better than doing VR. Unless there are some really poor MTs out there.

I think I need to get into QA!
Trust me. There are some really bad - sm

MTs out there. QAs get stuck grading and correcting the newbies and Indians' reports, which need a LOT of correcting. We also have to provide separate feedback, which we don't get paid for. We also get the worst of the worst reports all day every day. The dictators so horrible that MTs have to leave tons of blanks & you're so relieved when you're through with it -- we get to listen to that all day long. And then at the end of the day, we've made less money than we made MTing. If I didn't have CTS so bad, there's no way I'd be QAing. I miss being responsible only for my own work and having the occasional horrible report rather than the worst ones all day.
We do VR too. Where do you get your information? - We do ALL the garbage...

I just get to QA what MTs can't get or don't want to research. I have to agree, there are really good MTs who actually try to do their job, but then we also have the ones who blank everything they can't understand the first time they hear it and in no way try to research anything at all. I understand we're all on a tight schedule and trying to make $$, so i'm not saying spend an hour researching, but it wouldn't hurt to try just a little bit. And before anyone says anything, i'm also an MT, not just QA

Normal ROS & PEs
Jan 26, 2013

When a dictator asked that you insert a normal ROS or PE, then dictates "for the respiratory put ..." I often get dictation that contradicts what remains in the normal template but the dictators do not instruct to delete the rest of that heading. Sometimes this is an easy fix, for example if you know they complain of SOB, then you delete that portion. Other times we can't possibly know how the "normal" differs for this particular patient. It's time consuming to keep flagging these for ...

Mistakes In Normal Dictations
Jan 20, 2010

At my company (a smaller one) there are a lot of mistakes in the normal dictations that the doctors request.  The way they are created in the first place is the transcriptionist types up the report and sends it to QA saying the doctor would like to use this in the future for his normal, but I don't think they get reviewed by QA.  I think they just get created the way they are.  So if it was a right eye, the word right is there all the way through it.  If a word is misspe ...

I am preparing for the RMT exam. How much detail of the normal lab values do I need to know? Do I have to memorize all the normal values at the least? I find that impossible. Do I have to know what test will diagnose for which disease or particular study? How much information about the drugs do I need to know?  What kind of lab valu ...

Normal Templates - Concerns (sm)
Nov 30, 2012

We are inundated with sloppy dictators, perhaps the ones that can't use VR. We know how much they hate to dictate repetitive ROSs and PEs, thus they love using templates, or paragraphs from previous reports. Does anyone else note a lot of doctor errors in using these methods, i.e. racing through and not changing all the template details? I have found that NPs and female doctors are able to multitask and get this right, but the only males that can do this are the older ones who have a lot o ...
