Has anyone taken the IC pre-hiring test for NEMT? It's four dictations and a fill-in-the-blank. Like lots of other MTs, I'm trying to find some extra $$$ because my primary has been running low on work lately. I thought I did quite well, only one dictation did I leave three blanks because it was ESL and although I'm usually proficient with ESL, we all know it takes time to acclimate yourself to the dictator. They sent me a polite e-mail this morning: "We want to thank you for taking the time to take our online test. Your test grade was below our passing level. We will not be able to offer you a position at this time. Our tests can be retaken every 6 months if you would like to test again in the future."

Of course, no proof or documentation was sent regarding what I did wrong. I have been an MT for 37 years and of course I thought I did quite well other than the three blanks for the ESL dictator. Anyone else have a similar experience? I smell a fish. I know it's only one company but it is a bit deflating.

Maybe for you it was for the best as the pay is VERY low!

They have an extremely picky QA staff there!

I would think 3 blanks in any dictation would be excessive for a test.

Not "overconfident". The problem is "been-around-the- - block" syndrome. Really spooks the suits. nm

who want greenhorn MTs who still have stars in their eyes after reading all those misleading MT school ads stating, "You, too, can make $40K-60K a year in the GROWING field of medical transcription!"*

*(What they neglect to mention is that the field isn't growing HERE. It's growing in INDIA and CHINA).

They want workers naiive enough, or whose rose-colored glasses are thick enough, that they won't stop to think that maybe that 6cpl they're being offerd is ALL THEY'RE EVER GOING TO GET. Raises in this industry are almost unheard of anymore.

The older MTs know this, and of course they resent it! They resent being lied to, cheated out of money they've earned with hard work, cheated out of a future because of the unscrupulous behavior of that bunch of thugs - AHDI.

The Suits want people who've been brainwashed into thinking that AHDI is GOOD for MTs. Or that it won't send every last American transcription job it can get to someone who doesn't live in our country, barely speaks our language, does not pay into the American tax base, and isn't held to American laws and standards.

Yeah - they know they can not con you! - They want newbies to brainwash.

I am finding the very same thing. I've been an MT 35+ years (my skills are impeccable and I've done every job in the MT-book - so don't say it's because I need to brush up on ANYTHING).

They don't want those of us who made this field what it is today because we want a fair wage for our knowledge.

It is not about MTs being overqualified, it is about MTSOs being overgreedy!

I have taken tests at 3 different companies using the same kind of testing, 4 different transcriptions. Was told by one I made 97%; they require 98%. Would not tell me what I did wrong. Second one sent an email saying the same thing you received. Third one is offering me a position, said I passed and did fine. The second one, the voice files were so bad I could not understand them and I also left blanks. Amazing that I "failed" 2 and passed the third with a job offer.

I took the same test, left 2 blanks in probably the same ESL and (sm) - JustSayin ...

received the same email. I have over 23 years experience and felt that I had performed rather well on the testing, other than the two blanks. Since this happened I have spoken with 3 other MTs, all with experience between my own and yours, and they had the same experience. After reading what one of the posters stated about QA being picky and the pay being low, I am actually glad that I did not pass their test.

I work here, and this is, in my opinion, a WONDERFUL company. Sorry it didn't work out for the OP, but with your experience, something probably even better will work out for you. Someone said the pay is "very low." I don't consider what I make to be very low considering what the industry standards are becoming. This company has it together!

they may be wonderful, but 7 cpl for IC is low pay - hard to make a living on that

So, if you do 1200 lines per day, at 7 cpl, that is 84.00 per day... now take off those taxes (minimum of 25.00), so your at 59.00 for 1200 lines.

If you can do that 1200 in 6 hours, you are only making 9.80 an hour!

I think that is LOW PAY!

I'm NOT over-confident but healthy confidence. Leaving blanks is something we all do when we don't understand an unfamiliar dictator and I don't believe that's the issue here. Thanks to all who replied and yes, 7 cents is quite low considering I make 9 now. I'm applying like crazy and hoping for something positive.

Nowhere did I say I made 7 cpl at NEMT. I think that is low too. I make more than that!

Apparently I didn't observe the verbatim rule to a T, and I was docked for punctuation errors. At least they told me. No fish smell after all. ;)

Does anyone feel that NEMT is too strict with their schedule requirements considering IC status? I took the test, passed, and wanted acute care. I could commit to an 8-hour window of time for a part-time position but they were pushing for a stricter schedule.

Was told would have to commit to a schedule.. I thought it was IC... the client needs a schedule... then hire me as an employee and pay a portion of my taxes...

My mentor would IM me at all hours to ask work-related questions and expect me to sit by my computer for a 12-hour window while she tried to come up with 5 training reports for me to do. When I informed her I had other things I needed to be doing if she had no work for me, she would call/email/IM me as soon as she had ONE report for me to train on. They were well aware I had a full-time job and would be working for them in the a.m. hours, but I guess clocks run differently in their world than in ours.

I had heard/read good things about NEMT but my experience with them was less than wonderful.

Just wanted to post my experience with NEMT for everyone. For me this is an absolutely fantastic place to work. Basically, if you can produce good quality work and want to be appreciated for it then this would be a good fit. What you've heard about them being picky is true. I thought I would let everyone know the experience I had with NEMT. I have never had an experience quite like this one. Do not assume when you are hired that you HAVE the job. I was hired as an IC MT for NEMT. I started my orientation, which is basically training, not this last Monday but the Monday before. You get on at 7 am cst and stay on until 1 pm cst. FYI for everyone looking to hire into NEMT, they do not hire anyone located in Michigan or Illinois :) Thought I would let you know so you don't waste your time. I am personally done with the MT game. Start a bus driver job this week, will be making the same I did with all these recent MTSOs with a much better schedule. So is this legit? Most places I've worked in the past 10 or so years gave me a 24-hour window to accomplish my goal for the day. I tend to work best in chunks with time in between for, you know, life. I get that if I were an independent contractor to a lawn service, say, I obviously wouldn't mow lawns at 2:00 a.m. But "the client needs a schedule" seems a little wonky. My friend who is attending the AHDI conference in Indianapolis just texted me that the company we are ICs for (New England Medical Transcription) was awarded the Employer of the Year. Now isn't that strange--we're all ICs and the only "employees" are management! They use ICs illegally and get awarded for it! And here we sit on NJA all the time. ADHI named NEMT as the employer of the year, which for once I actually agree with them on! Aftering being with this company for over 2 years I have to say they are awesome to work for. For example, The owner sends emails to all the ICs letting them know what is going on with the company as a whole, rather than keeping everyeone in the dark and having everything be all hush hush and on a need to know basis. Not sure what is up but find it odd with this company. I passed their tests and of course they send me paperwork to fill out as a new hire whjich I did. Get an email stating that the HR person would contact me to set up an interview.
