Looking for small to mid size company - 1VeryTiredMT
Posted: Dec 01, 2014
So tired of the "Big" MTSO. Can anyone recommend a smaller company? I'm not really trained to do anything but MT and hate to give up working at home, but I'm probably considered poverty level now with what little I make. There must be some smaller companies around, but I can't find them.
Three that I can think of - nn

Smart Doc (straight typing), United Transcription (straight typing) and NEMT (straight typing but transitioning to VR).
NEMT - karina

I think I just read on here the other day though that someone posted NEMT may be transitioning to VR.
Karina -- yes they are - nn

Yes, they are eventually and I mentioned that in my OP.
That's 3 companies I will check out. - 1verytiredMT

Doing a google search I can't find any companies. Anyone else with ideas how to find the smaller companies? MTDaily lists companies, but it's an old list and a lot of the companies websites are no good. (Probably bought out by Nuance, lol)
United Transcription - Look at archives

I was also looking at this company, but there were a couple of posts about very heavy ESL. You will have to let us know.
United -- I currently work there - nn
[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, there are ESL docs. It is not a heavy mixture however, and it IS a company that prefers you leave a blank rather than guess. You are going to have ESL doctors no matter what company you apply to nowadays.
United - kabina

seems like I tested with United and the dictators weren't very easy to understand, so I would certainly think it was heavy ESL.
I guess it depends on your leve of experience then - nn

I tested as well, left blanks, passed the test and was hired and have been with them for several months. Possibly you didn't have the amount of experience they were looking for. They have many clear English-speaking dictators as well, but part of being a medical transcriptionist is to at least try to be able to understand ESL doctors, because truly there is NO escaping them.
This is funny. I have no ESLs at the moment, but these - English speaking docs
[ In Reply To ..]
sometimes talk worse than the ESLs. I got used to the ESLs and found they said a lot of the same stuff over and over again. Makes for good lines. Just saying.
Terra Nova is another one. Nice people. - and lots of work now.

Small Company Vs MTSO Sep 08, 2011I am beginning to think it's better to work for a small company than a big MTSO. So many of the comments on here are really not in favor of the "big boys." I'm sure it's partly old employees that dislike the company, but there seems to be less "drama" about the smaller companies. I would LOVE to find a small company that uses the Emdat Inscribe platform.
Thoughts, ideas on the subject or tips on smaller companies who actually pay? ...

TTS Recruiting AGAIN?? It's A Small Company With Bad History Jul 05, 2011I can't believe the management dumped more MTs. One week they fired 7 MTs and we were asked to work extra even though usually we run out of work.
Sounds like mismanagement is still the TTS way of doing things. Wonder if the same owner and supervisors are there? Anybody know? ...
Small Versus Large Company? Dec 15, 2011I am wondering what the pros and cons are for working for a smaller company versus a larger one? I work for a small company and this is the only one I have worked for, but find myself lately wondering if I need to move on as I am afraid that my skills I learned may be deteriorating and there has been such a lack of communication. I realize that every place is different, but I need some opinions from others that have been in the field longer than myself. Thanks. ...
Medical Data Services? Company Or A Small Owner? Dec 03, 20107 cents a line for independent contracting and for radiology? What is going on with this business? The hospitals at least treated us with hourly wages and health benefits. Now what gives? For years we fought in-house over knowing that you cannot treat radiology the same and line count it the same either, yet you work just as hard. Now, 7 cents without taking out taxes? Every hospital I know has no transcription radiology department any more anyway, so may ...
Does Anyone Work For A Small Company That Handles Private Practice? Sep 04, 2014I am looking for a smaller company that needs help with private practice transcription. Does anybody know of one that needs help? I can't find anything when I search. I am currently going part-time at a large company to get them off of my back about how long I am glued to the keyboard and foot pedal and how much work I do per hour. I have over 14 years of experience and I am good at what I do. I want to work for a company that will appreciate that and not hound ...

Font Size Help!!! (please) Apr 29, 2010This isn't directly related to MT, but is in a round-about way. I've done something to cause my font size in certain areas to be smaller, and it's driving me crazy! I don't know how to describe exactly where it is happening, but it is the font at the top of the tabs in IE, in the side menu (listing my mail folders) in my Outlook mail, the font in Word at the top of the page (toolbar and file, edit, view, etc.), in some message boxes, etc.& ...

Small-bowel Versus Small Bowel Jun 08, 2015I've always just used "small bowel," but then noticed most put "small-bowel," I assume to differentiate it as being part of the intestine as opposed to a small, or little bowel. Okay, that makes sense, so I stated hyphenating small-bowel. However, I just got marked off by QA for putting in a hyphen! No matter what you do or don't do, you're screwed! I do believe they just look for ways to antagonize so you'll never feel appreciated. ...
Stent Size Question Mar 17, 2011I know we are to drop the zero after a decimal when doing lab values, i.e. "hemoglobin was seven point zero" is just written as "hemoglobin was 7", but do you drop the zero after sizes, i.e. "Taxus three point O by twelve mm drug-eluting stent" - is that written 3.0 x 12-mm or 3 x 12-mm? I never can get this straight...any input would be helpful.
Thank you!!! :) ...
Screen Size Question Apr 23, 2012It just occurred to me the other day, I probably would be better off with an updated monitor. The actual viewing portion of my screen is only about 9-1/2 high and 12-1/2 inches wide ... the old thick chunky-type monitor. For those of you who are using larger flat screens, has it made much of a difference for you for proofing and overall viewing ease? ...

BOS Question On Cardiac Stent Size Feb 21, 2011I've been dinged on QA for typing a cardiac stent as "2.0 x 18 mm"; the note says "This should be 2 x 18 mm--drop the .0 if it's an even-numbered stent". This feels wrong, especially since the manufacturer's list shows it as "2.0". I'm on a new job and they're claiming to follow BOS, but they only have a copy of the 2nd Ed. (and I don't have access to a 3rd Ed.). I've been able to refute everything else that she erroneously flagged. Can someone verify which of ...
