Looking for small to mid size company - 1VeryTiredMT

So tired of the "Big" MTSO. Can anyone recommend a smaller company? I'm not really trained to do anything but MT and hate to give up working at home, but I'm probably considered poverty level now with what little I make. There must be some smaller companies around, but I can't find them.

Yes, they are eventually and I mentioned that in my OP.

Doing a google search I can't find any companies. Anyone else with ideas how to find the smaller companies? MTDaily lists companies, but it's an old list and a lot of the companies websites are no good. (Probably bought out by Nuance, lol)

I was also looking at this company, but there were a couple of posts about very heavy ESL. You will have to let us know.

Yes, there are ESL docs. It is not a heavy mixture however, and it IS a company that prefers you leave a blank rather than guess. You are going to have ESL doctors no matter what company you apply to nowadays.

seems like I tested with United and the dictators weren't very easy to understand, so I would certainly think it was heavy ESL.

I tested as well, left blanks, passed the test and was hired and have been with them for several months. Possibly you didn't have the amount of experience they were looking for. They have many clear English-speaking dictators as well, but part of being a medical transcriptionist is to at least try to be able to understand ESL doctors, because truly there is NO escaping them.

This is funny. I have no ESLs at the moment, but these - English speaking docs

sometimes talk worse than the ESLs. I got used to the ESLs and found they said a lot of the same stuff over and over again. Makes for good lines. Just saying.

Terra Nova is another one. Nice people. - and lots of work now.

I am beginning to think it's better to work for a small company than a big MTSO. So many of the comments on here are really not in favor of the "big boys." I'm sure it's partly old employees that dislike the company, but there seems to be less "drama" about the smaller companies. I can't believe the management dumped more MTs. One week they fired 7 MTs and we were asked to work extra even though usually we run out of work. Sounds like mismanagement is still the TTS way of doing things. Wonder if the same owner and supervisors are there? Anybody know? ...

I am wondering what the pros and cons are for working for a smaller company versus a larger one? I work for a small company and this is the only one I have worked for, but find myself lately wondering if I need to move on as I am afraid that my skills I learned may be deteriorating and there has been such a lack of communication. 7 cents a line for independent contracting and for radiology? What is going on with this business? The hospitals at least treated us with hourly wages and health benefits. Now what gives? This isn't directly related to MT, but is in a round-about way. I've done something to cause my font size in certain areas to be smaller, and it's driving me crazy! I don't know how to describe exactly where it is happening, but it is the font at the top of the tabs in IE, in the side menu (listing my mail folders) in my Outlook mail, the font in Word at the top of the page (toolbar and file, edit, view, etc.), in some message boxes, etc.& ...

I've always just used "small bowel," but then noticed most put "small-bowel," I assume to differentiate it as being part of the intestine as opposed to a small, or little bowel. Okay, that makes sense, so I stated hyphenating small-bowel. However, I just got marked off by QA for putting in a hyphen! No matter what you do or don't do, you're screwed! I know we are to drop the zero after a decimal when doing lab values, i.e. "hemoglobin was seven point zero" is just written as "hemoglobin was 7", but do you drop the zero after sizes, i.e. "Taxus three point O by twelve mm drug-eluting stent" - is that written 3.0 x 12-mm or 3 x 12-mm? I never can get this straight...any input would be helpful. Thank you!!! :) ...

It just occurred to me the other day, I probably would be better off with an updated monitor. The actual viewing portion of my screen is only about 9-1/2 high and 12-1/2 inches wide ... the old thick chunky-type monitor. I'm transcribing in Escription and want to change the font size in only the typing field. I changed that size from control panel, display, but that changed everying including the demographics. I need to see all the demographics. Just only want to enlarge what I type. I was increasinig the font size for each document but if I didn't change that back before uploading, it printed with the larger font and can't have that. I was told by my manager to bring up a blank word document ...

I've been dinged on QA for typing a cardiac stent as "2.0 x 18 mm"; the note says "This should be 2 x 18 mm--drop the .0 if it's an even-numbered stent". This feels wrong, especially since the manufacturer's list shows it as "2.0". I'm on a new job and they're claiming to follow BOS, but they only have a copy of the 2nd Ed. Working in Enterprise. My account just switched to Epic and the font size is very tiny. I've noticed that in the task bar right above where we enter the transcription that there are two buttons to click on, one for font and one for size. When clicking on them, different selections are offered (i.e., font size #s 1 through approximately 8) but nothing happens when I click on a # to try to make a change. Any ideas?
