A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
Several years ago, I was in a homeless shelter for a month (after trying to live with my sister and her family for hopefully a couple of months but ended up being only 3 weeks and which I knew was undoable before I even gave it a shot, and that's why I lost my MT job then and eventually ended up in the shelter).
Have you tried outside of MT, like maybe general transcription? I'm supplementing my MT income with that now. Check out GMR and Rev, or even Mechanical Turk.
Hopefully others here will have some more positive suggestions, but I will say, in very practical terms, that you might want to start researching shelters in your area as soon as possible, as it can often be difficult to get a spot in one and you'd want to do what you need to in order to get on a waiting list, if needed, for the "best" one you can find.
Best wishes being sent your way.
It could take a while to get going with decent earnings, but it would be very hard not to get "hired" by Mechanical Turk for transcription (you have to be a U.S. resident and take some qualifying tests is all).
This site is very helfpul, along with her E-book for $2.99, which I went ahead and got.

According to her book, even though you'd eventually make more with CastingWords transcription HITs, you really want to start out with SpeechInk.
Check it out. For someone with no employment at all, it's better than nothing and could actually eventually provide a decent living. I haven't done it myself (got hired by one of the other companies I mentioned), but it's my ace in the hole in case I need some more work later.
