Someone asked to explain what antitrust means. Antitrust laws were put in place by the US government and are intended to prevent companies from controlling prices and reducing competition (i.e. monopoly). Nuance is under investigation for violation of these laws. Yes, as someone said, it will be tied up in the courts for a long time, but it doesn't mean nothing, contrary to what the poster said. It means that there is enough evidence against Nuance to warrant investigation by the United States Government, the US Department of Justice, to be exact. The outcome of this investigation, obviously, is still ongoing, but it is being investigated and don't think Nuance isn't a little worried about it. The fact that the government has their thumb in this pie makes it very possible that they are not allowing Nuance to proceed with anymore purchases until the investigation is completed. This may be why Nuance "chose" (in their words) not to go public with the announcement that they were supposedly acquiring Accentus. Not to give anyone false hope, but it's entirely possible that this will not actually occur, at least in my opinion, decidedly not an expert opinion. Nuance has just about single-handedly ruined the MT industry, not by it's use of technology, but by it's low-balling of the MTs' wages. Let's face it, it's not the technology that's the problem, it's the low/minimum wage they are offering us to decipher the automatic speech recognitition. What a scam that was and is. As if anyone can edit a report twice as fast as they can type it. Please, some of us can type faster than edit! I, for one, am praying that this investigation brings Nuance to their knees. And, I'm done.
