Nothing wrong with venting - dln

Like all of you, I'm in the same boat. I've been doing MT since 1997 and working from home for nearly 20 years. I have a "cushy" IC job with a few local clinics, but the work is drying up and will soon be gone. Starting this past January, I began applying for non-MT jobs (though still in the medical field) and hit roadblock after roadblock with nobody responding to my applications or telling me I wasn't what they were looking for. I just double-checked one of our local hospitals where I applied to be a medical records clerk, and my application is still marked as "pending review" (yes, it's now July and I applied in January). I even applied for a scribe position, and I was told I wasn't what they were looking for and that I didn't have the experience. Very disheartening! I then applied for a transcription job with the local sheriff's department (with no expectations - I was just applying everywhere I could think of) and after an exhaustive interview process and background check, I will be starting the end of this month. The pay is not the best, but I will get benefits for the first time in 20 years! So, I'm excited about that. But yes, I had many, many places turn me down or not even respond to my application, and it was very disheartening. Never had that experience before, and it was shocking. I know I'm not young (just turned 50), but I still feel I have a lot to offer! Best of luck to all of us.
