When my transcription job ended several years ago, I also worked as a medical records tech until I retired last month. My pay was about the same as yours, but I was at the top of the pay scale for my position. It probably depends on what duties you perform, but I would not count on medical records clerical jobs being around forever, either. I did scanning and ROI, and we were running out of work and they recently had a reduction in staff. Patients have easier access to their records now and can do a lot remotely, and they have been headed in the direction of paperless medical records for years. I agree that it’s an option for MTs, but I’m not sure of job availability anymore. I mentioned the library because I worked as a volunteer when I first retired and was offered employment. It’s only a few hours a week, but all I want to do in retirement. In this day and age, it’s probably good for all of us to have a plan B and maybe even a plan C.
