It would probably depend on the job you are applying for. If the job I wanted wasn’t transcription related, I would not go back 30 years. I don’t think there are hard and fast rules, but I have read not to go back more than 5-10 years. You can summarize the rest, or put it in your cover letter. I’m older, and the problem I have is trying to disguise my age. That might be one reason not to go back that far on work experience. If longer resumes get the results you want, by all means do what works for you. If you can do something to grab their attention and keep them reading beyond the first page, that is great.
