True, it's not all bad, but I would discourage anyone from putting any energy into making a change in their MT job if they are status quo, and would encourage to start looking for another job/career that is non-MT.
OP doesn't say if she is still doing her job of experience, or if she's out of a job, but I totally would recommend not bothering with trying to train for acute care at this point. There is nobody that is going to hire her to train--free or not--unless it's a scam. I'm not saying she wouldn't get hired, but nobody is going to take the time to train in serious acute care.
