No you do not place a leave request. If your shift starts at 8 am and you have no work. Wait 6 minutes and put this in as you usually do on time card by adding a time entry. If you come back at say 9 am and work 30 minutes and then again at 10 am and work 30 minutes, then you would put a block of time for 8:06 am to 9 am and another for 9:30 am to 10 am and another for 10:30 am till you get more work and continue doing this till shift is over.
