If an MT is a full-time - employee

Yes, the PTO option is there, but why should that be on the table in this situation? PTO is for personal use and vacation time. Waiting for jobs isn't exactly a picnic. In fact, it really feels like having to be "on-call," sitting at the computer, waiting and available for work that is only intermittent at best throughout a scheduled shift. Some MTs are having to use their PTO, because a smaller paycheck just isn't an option.

Excused absence no pay is a set number of hours that when depleted will no longer be an option. Basically, it does exactly what it is called - excuses your absence without pay. The only thing is, when used for NJA, I've always been very present, sitting at the computer, patiently waiting for work during my scheduled shift, and not absent at all. So, this is really a misnomer - excused absence/no pay, regarding its use to cover NJA. Basically, when used for the above situation, it's due to the company's failure to provide an adequate volume of work for a mutually agreed upon scheduled shift.

The third option of making up the time lost due to no jobs isn't always possible to do, depending on how much time needs to be covered. A full-time schedule doesn't leave too many alternative blocks of time to choose from after already being available for a full shift. By attempting this "makeup time" day after day, it will further extend the work week to ridiculous amounts of time, waiting for work that may or may not be there during those alternative blocks of time as well. It's not unheard of for some MTs having to sit at the computer for 10, 12, or more hours a day just to "get in" their 8 hours of production time, usually when the other 2 options described above have already been exhausted.

Not much in any of these 3 options seems very reasonable or fair to me..
