Yes, this new crop of MTSOs is a group of start-ups using all ICs and doing Nuance work on Nuance technology. (I mean what businessperson in their right mind would start an MTSO these days!!!) Because Nuance can't legally use ICs, they're now farming out the work while keeping their hands clean, legally and financially. Nuance is trying desperately to fix their balance sheet (meaning profit and loss for NTS) as they're way too top-heavy with management and QA and have to pay their MTs minimum wage. So they roll the challenges on to a new company that is willing to take the risk of managing ICs, doesn't know a lot about transcription (or business) at all, and is sometimes just run by a bunch of Indians with a US address. (That's because the whole exchange and Trump changes in tax laws have made offshoring less attractive financially). So we're getting MTSOs cropping up like Iowa corn, and we've got MTs all over the US without jobs and without work who are signing on to work at less than a living wage, so it's working--FOR NOW! But it's all going to hit the fan when either the MTSOs realize they've been duped by the mighty Scruance, the IRS or DOL goes after them for their shady business and hiring practices, or there's some medical error that kills somebody and the media gets wind of it. Meanwhile Scruance continues to collect their technology changes for use of the platform, so they're laughing all the way to the bank. Money without risk. It's a huge gamble on their part, which to date has paid off handsomely. Believe me, these new MTSOs have been duped BIG-TIME as you can't get the work done by dependable, competent MTs for these rates--for long anyway!
