I also left after 17 years, and it wasn't until I put in a resignation that I was offered PT/IC. I don't need the work to support myself (obviously not happening in this field), but I also wasn't happy working for line counts all the time either. Been out of the house a year now and have lost 20 pounds. Feel wayyy better.
