I totally agree. I just finished my coding program and took (and passed) AAPCs test. The national average is $22 but that really is useless information because we are newbies and not even close to asking for that. Also it depends on where you work (geography and place). I am also reaching this. BUT the wage is WAY better and job security is better for coders than MTs. I was an MT for many, many years but the wage is just not there....sorry not so helpful.
