That drives me crazy! I've noticed in the past 10 years or so that a lot of people, it not most, are now saying "went" in place of "gone." It used to be something associated with a lack of education, but now I even hear reporters saying and writing grammar incorrectly. Also "less" in place of "fewer," and "oldest" when it should be "older," etc.
