Buy a secure FTP hosting to store your files online e.g.

or search for "SFTP hosting". Many other services are available as well.
Later you both can use a number of free SFTP clients software/apps to upload and download files from your storage space.

My favourite is Filezilla for PC.
Your doctor can use any app available on apple store to directly upload files from IPhone as well.

You both need:-
1. IP address
2. Username
3. Password
to access your storage space and can configure hundreds of clients out there to access your files securely.
