Antivirus - Backwoods Typist

Posted: Mar 13th, 2016 - 8:28 pm In Reply to: What is the best free antivirus program for - Windows 7?

Microsoft Security Essentials is free and has been reliable on my Win7 system. Windows Defender is for Windows 8 and above.

Pair this with Malwarebytes. Paid subscription is best for this program. Check around with local computer shops to see what they can get you a lifetime license for versus what you can get it for directly from Malwarebytes. Shops have the ability to buy in bulk, which means you may get a cheaper price.

Als, you can use CC Cleaner to help clean your system. CC Cleaner has the ability to clean your registry, potentially cleaning out corrupt files that may have viruses or rootkits attached. It also fixes other problems.

As a note, if you do download any of these programs, make sure you download directly from the maker's site. If you download from somewhere like CNET, oftentimes there are other things attached, like malware or adware.
